The town is served by the Lebanon Independent School District and there are two churches - the LDS church and the Methodist church. The first settlers to Lebanon were Mormons who came from Utah in 1873. They built their first log cabin on the site that now forms part of town. In 1919, when World War II began, Lebanon township had only 350 residents remaining; however, within five years it had grown to 2,000 inhabitants thanks to growth within the local military industry which also sustained rapid expansion during World War II; this included both production and distribution of munitions throughthe local mills). Lebanon’s postwar success was due largely to its strong agricultural economy which relied critically on irrigation water sourced from nearby reservoirs; thus Beirut became one of the most heavily irrigated communities in United States during those years (although other towns such as Douglas also achieved heavy irrigation reliance).
