Lebanon, Oregon is a small town in the Yakima Valley of Washington State. It is located about an hour and a half north of Seattle and about two hours northeast of Portland. The population was 1,500 as of the 2010 census. The community began as a farm village on the banks of the Columbia River, around present-day Lebanon Hill. In 1887, Swedish immigrants founded an agricultural colony west of what is now Lebanon. By 1907, there were 9 families living in Lebanon. In 1910, when Congress created the state of Oregon from part of Washington Territory, it included all or parts of five counties in northwestern Washington: Lewis County (to the east), Sitka County (to the south), Grant County (northwest), Klickitat County (southwest) and coulee country near Snohomish Lake (the southernmost county). The villages within these boundaries – Lebanon, Olmstedville, Coeur d'Alene, Auburn and Cheney – were named after U.S. senators from Oregon: John Sherman (D-Ohio) for Lewis County; Josephine Benson Sweeney for Grant; Ezra Taft Benson for Klickitat; Anson Hastings Young for Coeur d'Alene and Washoe Counties; Hiram Johnson Fenton for Cheney and Snohomish Lake area. Oregon became a state on January 5th 1959 and with it came responsibility to name localities after elected officials who had contributed to that statehood celebration including Ulysses S. Grant Jr., Salmon Pinchot Sr., Don Benton Pearcey and Paul Crouchman among others

It is part of the Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1887 by families from Lebanon, Syria who had migrated to the area after being driven out of their homes during the Lebanese Civil War (1946-1948). Lebanon is one of several small towns scattered around Lane County that were founded during the Gold Rush era in California. At its peak populations in 1850 and 1860 there were over 100 residents living in various parts of Lane County. However by 1870 only about 50 people lived within a radius of Lebanon. By 1900only thirteen residents remained with a total population of just 227 individuals. Lebanon began to grow rapidly following World War I when many farmers came to the area looking for new land to farm after they were pushed out of their traditional lands in Turkey andSyria due to WWI hostilities. Many Lebanese immigrants settled on what are now Lebanon Road and Hoskins Street near Mount Hood National Forest headquarters as well as other areas along Interstate 5 outside Portland. After World War II many refugees from Europe settled in Anonaugus Road east of Lebanon which also became an heavily agricultural area with cattle ranching, tomato production and other commercial farming activities taking place until recently when those activities have all but disappeared due to development around the village itself including an auto dealership, grocery store and related strip malls/residential developments called "The Village".
Oregon was admitted to the United States on January 14, 1859. The first judicial and legislative districts were created in 1861; the first county was organized in 1872. The population of Oregon increased rapidly during the early years of statehood because of its location at the mouth of the Columbia River and its growing agriculture and mining industries.
