Lebanon, Oregon is a small city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the county seat of Douglas County. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 709 people. It is located on the Clearwater River in central Douglas County, about 20 miles (32 km) north-northwest of downtown Portland and 45 miles (72 km) east-southeast of Seattle. The community was founded in 1887 by brothers Elias and John Nash as an agricultural settlement near present-day Lebanon, Washington. The founders were inspired to name their new community after Mount Lebanon in Palestine because they saw that this mountain was often mentioned as a center for religious revival there. They also chose Douglas County because it was then newly created from parts of Whatcom and Snohomish counties. Lebanon was originally part of the Indian reservations managed by United States Indian Affairs which were sold to settlers in 1884. The first white settler arrived in 1885, Arthur Ladd who named his property "Lemon Hill". In 1898, Jens Larson bought Lemon Hill from Arthur Ladd and moved his family to what is now Lebanon Township. He built a mill on Lemon Hill Creek which he renamed "Oregon Falls". He also founded the first store in what is now Lebanon when it opened its doors on February 2, 1899. A post office called "Lemon Hill" was established at Oregon Falls on December 5, 1899; but due to high demand for mail service within Douglas County, the office moved back to Lewisville two weeks later on December 12th under the name "Lewisville Post Office". In 1901/1902 Hinton Wiman came overland from Canada with his team “The Canadian” and started farming around Twin Lakes where he named his farm “Wiman’s Valley” after himself and his brother George Wiman who had accompanied him overland from MontrealOntarioCanada . After some years Hinton Wiman decided against farming due to lack of success so he returned home via railcar along with 4 other farmers including David Noyes who would go onto found Noyes Farms near SalemOregon . Lebanon, Oregon is a small town in Yamhill County, Oregon, United States. The population was 541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area and is located on the Willamette River. The town was founded in 1892 by Lebanese immigrants who had come to America as carpenters and masons. The first post office in Lebanon opened in 1895. By 1920, it had grown to include a hotel and two stores. In 1941, Lebanon became an incorporated municipality with a population of 1,394 people. A fire destroyed most of the town in 1951, but it rebuilt and grew again until 2000 when its population dipped to 468 people due to economic decline. In 2008, Lebanon joined the municipal government of Portland along with Gresham and Hillsboro. In 2013, the Town Council approved plans for a new elementary school and community center that would be funded by a $10 million bond issue
Lebanon, Oregon was founded on January 9, 1851 by a group of settlers from the United States. The first permanent settler in Lebanon, Oregon was John A. Buttler. He and his family came overland from Santa Fe, New Mexico and started to clear land in what is now Lebanon, Oregon. They built a cabin and began to farm the land. In 1858, they married Mary Jane Hickey and moved into their own house.
