Lebanon, Oregon is a small town in the U.S. state of Oregon that is part of the Salem metropolitan area. The population was 3,854 at the 2010 census, up from 2,955 at the 2000 census. It is located on the Willamette River and has a land area of just over 0.6 square miles (1 km²). The community began as two families who came to Oregon in 1885 for health reasons and found a fertile cornfield with trees nearby. In 1898, Lebanon had its first school and by 1905 it had six residents; one family continued to live there until 1951 when they moved to Springfield. The last resident died in December 2003. Oregon's history can be traced back to 1847 when prospectors discovered gold near what is now Lebanon; within months settlers had arrived with their families and built homes on sites where they would continue mining until 1865 when this activity stopped due to lack of resources. The town was founded by three men: George Washington Hoadly (1825-1902), Hiram Sibley (1829-1900) and John Crouch (1835-1920). In 1882, Hoadly sold his interest in the town to Sibley for $2,000 cash which he used to open a general store adjoining his home on Commercial Street; four years later he donated land east of Commercial for an LDS temple which was completed in 1886. In 1902 Hoadly again sold his holdings in Lebanon but this time they were divided among five brothers - Orson Hyde Wieland (1863-1942), George Milton Wieland (1872-1951), Lester Hyde Wieland (1900-1981), Franklin Seymour Wieland (1904-1986) - along with $10,000 each which went into the new town fund established for development purposes including schools, churches and other public buildings notchting off Highway 97A between downtown Salem and Interstate 5 southward beyond Beaverton since these latter were considered necessary for access by truckers travelling through or connecting with Portland via I5 during times of high traffic congestion on highway! By 1916 all these structures except one were complete! Between 1925 and 1959 only 10% or so of original costs were ever met through private donations therefore much emphasis was placed upon maintaining public services including streetlighting ($4 per month per household!), water systems ($4/month), sidewalks ($2/month/$20 worth) roofing & windows maintenance (!@per year!) etc…..including building replacement programs costing more than originally budgeted due! Only 50% or so of current potholes are filled per year!!!!! A number of businesses have been opened recently such as Pizzeria Italiana & Spirits Store where Lebanese immigrants started serving food late evening pastries beginning around 1975!!! Additionally several large office buildings have been built such as One World Financial Center across from Parkland High School dating back to 1996 while still others are under construction such as Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant typically opening after major holiday events like Christmas or Easter Erects finally completing in early 2019
Lebanon, Oregon is an agricultural community located in the Southern Cascade Range of the Cascade Mountains. The community was founded by Mormon settlers in 1847, and began to grow rapidly after the discovery of large deposits of coal and oil near Lebanon. The early residents were largely farmers, but later developed into a manufacturing town. The population peaked at around 10,000 in the late 1940s, but has since declined due to dwindling resources and a lack of development.
