This resolution read: Whereas Congress finds that many Amtrak passengers are paying high fares far beyond their means because they travel long distances over short periods ol time;Whereas Amtrak does not offer adequate services at convenient stations near these Cities;Whereas Amtrak should be made available at less cost through new routes connecting these major metropolitan areas with eastern Long Island Our resolutions call attention to this situation and urge Congressto take action To meet this challenge we recommend that Amtrak provide more frequent service from downtown Salem directly into eastern Long Island communities rather than terminating at Milwaukie Junction where trains arrive late & spend hours waiting for freight trains arriving from other parts ol America
Lebanon, Oregon was founded in 1885 by Peter and Emma Wellman. The Wellmans were pioneers in the farming of this area, and their land was used for growing wheat and other crops. In 1903, a post office was established at Lebanon, and mail service to the town began. In 1919, the first school opened in Lebanon. By 1925, there were five schools in Lebanon, all run by private individuals or churches. In 1957-1959, a new high school was built on the same campus as the present high school. The original elementary school closed in 1965 and was replaced with a second Elementary School; however, it closed again in 1975.
