The original homesteaders were not farmers but ranchers who raised livestock and grew crops for sale in nearbyPortland. By 1912, when Oregon became a state, Lebanon had become an incorporated town with a school, post office, store and two churches. In 1916 Lebanon voted to secede from Multnomah County to form its own independent entity known as Tualatin Valley Township. In 1972 Tualatin Valley Township merged into Multnomah County and Lebanon became part of its new government structure; however it retains its own name both locally and online (www.lebanonoregon). The population has remained relatively stable over time with few large population changes except for a modest increase during World War II which caused many refugees to move into neighboring Portland; however no Lebanese immigrants remain today in Lebanon proper or within its boundaries outside of sporadic visits by Lebanese people traveling through Oregon en route home

The town is located on the banks of the Willamette River and is known for its lumber industry and agricultural production. The population of Lebanon, Oregon was 3,878 at the 2010 census. Lebanon was named after a small village near Dunfermline, Scotland, where some of the settlers had originated from. When they arrived in Oregon, many were farmers with little experience building railroads or organizing their own businesses. But despite this inexperience, these early Lebanese settlers did not rest easy until they had made their mark on what would become Lebanon – first as lumberjacks and then as ranchers and farmers. The first mills in Lebanon were built around 1900 to help take advantage of the growing local timber industry. By 1905, there were also three churches in town – one Presbyterian and two Methodist churches – as well as a school and five stores. Over time, more businesses began to open up including a bank, post office, livery stable, grocery store (later replaced by an IHOP), barbershop/beauty salon (now closed), doctor’s office (closed 1990), beauty supply store (closed 2007) and tire shop/detail shop (now closed). In 1961–62 when Interstate 5 was constructed through northeast Oregon concurrent with plans for further development south of Lebanon along Highway 97B—the town’s only access point save for an overpass across the river—Lebanon lost much of its worth because it no longer sat within minutes’ walk of any major highways or shopping malls outside Portland or Eugene. However since then various efforts have been made by developers to bring back some semblance of life to downtown Beirut which has seen several renovation projects completed such as new streetscape designations; renovation of approximately 50% of its original buildings; introduction Of modern day air conditioning; installation Of new sidewalks throughout downtown Beirut; establishment Of corporate headquarters for numerous local businesses within walking distance including The Pizza Place chain; revitalization OF several public squares throughout downtown Beirut which have now become lively nightlife destinations complete With unique architecture executed In collaboration With local artists who often operate during daytime hours And outdoor concerts taking place nightly throughout year
Lebanon, Oregon history began with the arrival of the first European settlers in 1847. The area that is now Lebanon was part of the Mexican Empire and was not claimed by the United States until November 8, 1848. The first Englishman to arrive in what is now Oregon was John Cowlay, who arrived on horseback on December 12, 1851. He named his new land “Oregon” after his home country of England. In 1865, a group of men from Portland founded the town of Beaverton in northwestern Oregon. By 1870, most of what is now Lebanon had been settled and formed a village called Beaverton. On January 1, 1872, Beaverton incorporated as a city under the name “Lebanon” after its incorporation into Portland.
