Lake Oswego, Oregon is a small town located in Clackamas County, Oregon. The population was 1,846 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Lake Oswego were the Timucua Indians who founded a village on its shores in 1847. In 1865, gold was discovered nearby and soon after, businesses sprung up around the mining camps that sprang up around it. Most of these operations closed by the 1880s as technology improved and other mines became available closer to cities. In 1905, lumber baron Andrew Goldwyn donated land to build a park on its shores which eventually became known as Goldwyn Park. The town name changed to Lake Oswego in 1922 when he donated another piece of land to make it an unincorporated community. The town grew rapidly during World War II due to wartime demand for military housing and office space; however, by 1951 it had shrunk back to its original size thanks largely to suburban development within walking distance of the city center. After years of debate over whether or not to annex neighboring Beaverton into Lake Oswego, voters decided against annexation in 1998 but did approve a plan for mixed use development adjacent to the city limits that would have added more than 2,000 jobs onto the local economy between 2004 and 2009 alone. However, this project never came close to fruition due largely because of CostCo's acquisition of I-5 motorway east of downtownPortland in 2006 and ensuing construction projects throughout centralClackamas County that disrupted traffic flow on Interstate 5 outside of Lake Oswego proper while also adding millions dollars' worth of value (and jobs) unto CostCo's eastern campus adjacent thereto; both projects ultimately failed despite significant financial investment from local government entities thereby creating a costly public-private divide along I-5 corridor north/southwestof downtown Portland). Today there are only a few scattered buildings remaining from those early days including one former mill owned by Ayer Mills which still stands across from Umpqua Valley High School although much has changed within commuting distance since then: Blakeney Blvd., Naito Parkway NW & Sarnia Rd.; all 3 streets running northwest/southeast out towards Multnomah Bay are now Veneta Boulevard with homes going up along their length (making for some beautiful views). City services once included streetlights at every intersection making driving easier but they've all been replaced with LED lights nowadays - something that may come handy if things ever go wrong again like they did decades ago when gas prices increased so suddenly without warning...
