The history of target shooting in Lake Oswego, Oregon can be traced back to the 18th century. The first attempt to shoot at a target occurred on October 10, 1785 when Captain James Cook and his men used a crossbow to shoot an animal from a distance of about five miles. In 1866, the first organized shooting competition took place in Lake Oswego. At that time, only shotguns were allowed to be used. The first rifle match was held on November 6, 1868. In 1896, there was anotherorganized shooting competition which included handguns as well as rifles and shotguns. Since then, target shooting has been a popular pastime in the community. There have been many tournaments and championships hosted throughout the years. Some of the most recent championship events have been held at the Oswego Shooting Club where competitors from all around Oregon compete for prizes such as trophies and money.

In 1892, Eugene Smith began producing handguns for sale in Lake Oswego. Smith's pistols are considered some of the earliest handguns designed specifically for personal use in America. Smith's pistols continued to be manufactured until 1911
Lake Oswego is a beautiful, large body of water located in Oregon. The lake was formed by the melting of the glaciers that covered the area during the last ice age. The water level has slowly risen over time and now covers an area of over 107 square miles. The surface area is slightly smaller but it contains over 620 feet (190 meters) of freshwater shoreline. There are also several islands at its center which contribute to its beauty and attractiveness. The first people to live in this part of Oregon were the Hidatsa tribe who hunted game around the lake. They built their villages on either side of the river that flowed into it from Minnesota. Inland, they collected rocks for use as tools and beads for trade with other tribes. By 1800, these cultures had merged into one and started to grow crops and build houses. In 1819, United States troops under General John Custer marched through this region looking for Indians to fight against Mexico. When they reached Lake Oswego, they discovered that there were no Indian camps or settlements nearby so they began construction of Fort Clatsop on what is now calledFort Vancouver Island on opposite shore of the lake. This site served as a military stopping point until 1846 when Washington became a state and Fort Clatsop fell within its boundaries

Lake Oswego is a small, but important reservoir in the U.S. state of Oregon. It was created by damming the Snake River and its tributaries in what is now Lake Oswego County in 1906. The lake covers an area of about 107 square miles (253 square km). The first written mention of Lake Oswego occurs in 1827 when John McLoughlin noted that it lay "just above the foot of the little peak called Mount Aspinwall" on his map of Multnomah County. The name was first used for what is now Lower Oswego Township, which straddles its southern border with Washington County, northwest of Portland. In 1847, when Multnomah County was formed from parts of Walla Walla and Clackamas counties, part of it included present-day Lake Oswego Township. In 1898, as part of Measure 7, passed by the Oregon State Legislature, land east and northeast of modern-day Main Street became part of the new township; this included most or all present-day Lower Oswego Township and much further north into Washington County until today's northwestern corner where Highway 11 meets Interstate 5 outside Ofice Park Mall shopping center original site
Oregon was part of the United States of America from 1848 until it became a state in 1959. The Oregon Territory included much of what is today Idaho, Wyoming and parts of Nevada and Arizona. In 1846, the U.S. Congress created the new territory by passing an act that extended to Oregon lands acquired from Mexico in the Mexican-American War.
