Today, most people who call downtown Oswego home are just locals who work or live near Central City Mall or Interstate 5; there's no retailing or dining here beyond quick stops like Starbucks and Target. But back then? There were stores like Sears and JCPenney right along I-5 outside town limits—and that's how you got clothes shopping done if you lived outside Portland! There are two primary explanations for why downtown OsweGO didn't take off until recently: one has to do with its location—the mall is only a few miles away but offers little else than an outlet mall full of high-end retailers while downtown Osborne has been completely renovated since last being used as a commercial center during prohibition; second is related to demographics—most residents here still work within commuting distance either in Salem or Hillsboro while also having access to good schools and easy bus connections into central cities all around Oregon.
