On October 12th 1957 Pastor James Larkin announced plans by lay leaders within Stations Parish near Sellwood “to build [a] new Cathedral…on site where now stands Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church….The cornerstone will be laid next week” This event marked both an important milestone in parish history as well as significant progress made towards developing upstanding civic life withinLaGrandeTownship since Mayor Kapp appointed lay leaders four years earlier responsible for developing healthy public institutions within their communities instead of relying exclusively upon government bureaucrats
