Today, La Grande is a thriving community with many successful businesses located within its limits; however, it still suffers from some of the same issues that have plagued it during its history: racism towards certain groups remains rampant even though overt manifestations have been erased over time; schools are often inadequate compared to other communities in Oregon; nevertheless efforts are being made towards changing these conditions through initiatives like “Portland Promise” which helps low-income residents receive access to quality education; although progress has been made recently with regard to economic development opportunities for Latinos/os residing in La Grande specifically (Gonzalez-Reyes & Flores- Yepes 2017), much more needs to be done if la grande wantseto reach its full potential as a vibrant community ripe with opportunity and culture
