By 1850, over 50 shops, hotels and other businesses had opened up around Klamath Falls serving travelers heading southward along Interstate 5 or eastward along Highway 99 both ways! Klamath Falls experienced many changes during its early years including being destroyed by a fire in 1862 which left most of the commercial buildings standing but did extensive damage to homes; however it re-emerged as a thriving community once again thanks largely to donations from local citizens! In 1969, floods caused extensive damage which stopped most traffic on I-5 yet again giving downtown plenty of time to redevelop!
