Klamath Falls, Oregon is a town located in Klamath County, Oregon USA. The population was 2,090 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Klamath County. In 1905 the city of Klamath Falls was created when the towns of Prineville and Eureka were merged to form one municipality. The name "Klamath Falls" is derived from the language Lama (or Sapa), which means "waterfalls." When white men first set foot in what is now Klamath County they named it after their home state of Illinois - Klamaths River. In 1847 Ayer Hinton established a post office at present-day Klamath Falls for himself and his family. The first postmaster, James Burt, served from May 17, 1847 until February 28, 1850. The first store in town was started by Wm Clements on December 15th, 1873 and operated until January 1st 1888 when it burned down due to a faulty gas stovepipe connection. There was no school until 1881 when there was an addition built to the old log schoolhouse which seated 30 students plus 4 teachers during morning and noon recesses together with one hundred boys having lunch in one large room during winter months outside on the porch while attending school inside during warm weather months. A new brick building replaced this structure in 1903-4 and served as both a public library and high school for fifty six years before its closure as part of Columbian College's School System consolidation plan in 1978-79 prior to that time becoming known simply as Columbian High School/Libraries]. In 1984 Columbian High School became part of Oregon State University's College of Education where it remains today serving both students and staff through three levels: undergraduate (throughout its four colleges), graduate (MSU education specialist program), professional studies programs including law enforcement officer training). Today's campus includes two libraries: one on top of Courtyard Towers housing classrooms and research laboratories; also includes a gymnasium/multi-purpose hall accommodating 3200 people; 11 science labs; 5 computer labs; 16 specialty rooms; over 100 faculty members who teach various college preparatory courses along with full range vocational/technical instruction in Business Administration etc.; 20 student services buildings including 12 Career Center units each housinga library & 50 workspaces for student loan applications/processing etc.; 21 service academies or wings providing unique educational opportunities for juniors & seniors such as accelerated degree programs leading to fulltime employment or scholarships valued at $2500 per year plus free transportation to participating institutions; numerous visitor attractions like interpretive signs telling about local history & resources from early pioneers onward thru World War II military camps open seasonally on weekends throughout most fall weeks ending with Pioneer Days celebration featuring stage shows outdoors culminating with dinner day october 10th followed by Christmas day . . . All told more than 350 acres have been developed around this city limits totaling more than 2400 parking spaces available!

The Klamath Falls-Eugene Railroad was chartered on October 20, 1883, by the Oregon State Legislature. It became part of the Northern Pacific Railway system in 1888. The locomotive factory at Klamath Falls was begun in 1892 and completed in 1893. The first train to run through Klamath Falls arrived on December 1, 1893.
