By 1900, Klamath Falls had become a small but important agricultural center with several thousand residents and numerous businesses. During World War II, many families moved to Portland for work during wartime shortages elsewhere in America. By 1850, there were over 50 families living in and around present-day Klamaths Falls. In 1865, John Cramer donated 640 acres (253 hectares) to the town of Corvallis to help build an irrigation system for his farmlands near Medford. This donation helped support growth within Corvallis while also providing access to quality water resources that later led to development within the city itself. By 1871, “the Hayden family had developed one hundred acres (40 hectares) outlying from [Klamaths Fall], forming what we call today’s eastern edge [of] downtown Corvallis” (Anderson). By 1888, “the name had become so well known throughout all sections that letters received at our post office appeared without delay under any variety of names: Grantville; Kamiah; Kulmetha; Cullowhee; etc., until finally we adopted it as our own” (Watson). For most residents within present-day Klamaths Falls however, their original name remains unchanged today – George Wilek City patrolled by Citizens Band Radio & TV Station
