During World War IIPortland experienced another boom thanks to its position as both an important transportation hub for materials moving across Canada and through the Pacific Ocean and its role as an embarkation point for troops heading off to fight in Europe. The war also helped spur demand for housing throughout Portland which led to some 930 buildings being built between 1940 and 1945 alone; many notable landmarks such as Aladdin’s Castle (now called Pioneer Courthouse) were erected during this time period including part of Interstate 5 which now runs nearby!
