In 1847, the first gun barrels were produced in Keizer. At that time, Oregon was part of the United States. The first guns were made with smoothbore bullets and there wasn’t a lot of innovation in barrel production until the mid-19th century.
On July 6, 1859, Oregon became a state when the United States of America was established. Keizer, then an eastern Oregon town of 1,500 people and growth since its founding in 1877 as a stagecoach stop on the Arikaree River, became Oregon's capital. The city hall and other government buildings were built in downtown Keizer between 1879 and 1887 by John S. Romine, who had also founded the first school in Oregon. Oregon made headlines when it ratified the Manifesto of Independence on November 4,1848. On January 3rd of that year, General David Roberts led a U.S.- Mexican War cavalry charge against mounted Californians at what is now known as Battle of Brimstone Pass – one of the bloodiest battles in American history. California won with only eleven dead including Roberts himself; however, some historians maintain that over 50% of those killed were Mexican soldiers and their horses - making it one of the most bitterly fought skirmishes in American history. In early 1861 (just before Lincoln took office) Keizer residents voted to become part of Confederate California under Abraham Lincoln's new Kansas-Nebraska Act which split Nebraska into two states: Nebraska for Northerners and California for Southern sympathizers; Keizer was not included because its citizens opposed secession even though they did not live east of the Rockies. On February 14th 1861 local Unionists burned down the old blacksmith shop where Keiser had its first post office back in 1877 while refusing to surrender their arms or pay taxes to Annexing California; this event helped spur business growth in downtown Kaiserslautern so that by 1865 "Keiser" was anglicized to Kaiserburg (Kaiserstadt). Oregon Statehood came about as a result of Congress' passage on May 15th 1850 implementing Kansas-Nebraska Act with Mexico joining as a co-equal party along with Texas & New Mexico Territory joining later that year from territories acquired from Mexicans during Polk’s administration but never admitted into US; all these territories were organized into states within 10 years following admission into US due to popular demand & forces behind admission like Mulford’s Party (& Andrew Johnson’s cabinet) led by James Buchanan who wanted more land for his personal profit rather than giving it away evenly among population via homestead laws enacted during Pierce adminstration (& Stanford White’s bureau); this issue #3&4 on agendas for western congressmen leading up to Sumner speech delivered at Iowa state fairgrounds on April 6th1863 called “The Great Sioux Nation Question” leading up to Unification Proclamation issued three days later which announced endof territorial boundaries between US & Mexico Congress passed Unification Proclamation & act named after it - Organic Laws Of The United States Of America - Dec 31st1865 which created 12 new Western Territorys including Multnomah County CA In 1863 Mr James Buchanan offered $10M annually untilLVN Treaty been negotiated if necessary Ulysses S Grant accepted offer & we went south without any bloodshed or problems
