Hillsboro is one of the oldest communities in Multnomah County and has been inhabited by Native Americans for over two centuries. In 1847, when Multnomah County was created from land taken from the Yakama Nation, Hillsboro was part of that original county. Hillsboro's history began with loggers and farmers coming to this area in the early 1800s looking for lumber resources. By 1850, there were over seventy businesses in town; logging was still an important industry but had begun to decline due to competition from other industries such as mining and transportation. A school was built in 1873; it served as a community center until it closed in 1951 due to budget cuts. The city started growing rapidly after World War II when new housing developments were constructed around Interstate 5 and Highway 97A (now State Route 99). The population exploded during the late 1960s through 1970s as young people moved into town because of good jobs available on nearby campuses such as Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) or Lane Community College (LCC). Since then, growth has slowed down slightly although there are still many new development projects underway throughout downtown and along I-5 outside of town limits

Hillsboro is a city in Oregon, United States. The population was estimated to be around 53,500 in 2000 and was 117,000 as of 2010. Hillsboro is the county seat of Clackamas County. The first Europeans to visit what is now Hillsboro were fur traders and missionaries who came through the area in the 18th century. A post office called "Hillsboro" was established in 1851, but it didn't take off until 1862 when the town was named for Benjamin Hills, a justice of the peace from York County, Pennsylvania. In 1875, when most of Oregon became a state, Hillsboro became the state capital. In 1907, Umpqua Valley Railroad Company built a line from Salem to Hood River which passed through HillSBoro (now part ofPortland). The company also built an spurtrack northwest from Hood River to connect with Umpqua Valley Railway at Prentiss House on Willamette River. This allowed goods to be shipped downriver while continuing to be transported by boat upriver. The town became an important transportation center andrewsized because it had easy access to both roads and water resources. The 1920 census counted 26 people living in HillSBoro; by 1930 that number had grown to more than 100 people due largely to World War II military recruitment drives which brought many new residents into town during the war years. During these years HillSBoro also began developing into a residential community with large homes located near shopping centers and other amenities available only within walking distance or driving range for most citizens. It wasn’t until after World War II that hillsboroughienvelopeda commercial zone characterized by light industrial parks as well as some larger restaurants and stores such as Jiffy Lube throughout much of downtown including several banks- one being First National Bank-all operated by local American parents who raised their children here during their formative years before moving them on after high school graduation back east or away from rural America altogether .
