Happy Valley, Oregon is a small town in the Willamette Valley located in the southwestern part of Oregon. The population was 5,846 as of the 2010 census. Happy Valley is home to the Happy Valley Observatory and one of only a few observatories in Oregon that still uses an open-air telescope system called "The Telescope." The first telescope in Happy Valley was built by Professor George Smith on property he owned near the present day intersection of U.S. 97 and State Route 20. The observatory was originally named Mount Vancouver but it quickly became clear that there were too many stars for a single mountain to house both an observatory and a research station. So Professor Smith decided to build two telescopes on his farmstead, one using lenses made from sheep skin donated by his neighbor John Day, and the other using lenses made from boulders donated by local farmers. In 1892, America's first modern open-air telescope system called "The Telescope" was erected at Happy Valley Observatory by Professor George Smith and Drs. Alfred Wegener and Emanuel Swedenborg with funding provided by General James KNOX under President William McKinley. This new telescope system permitted researchers around the world to use their backyard telescopes to study celestial objects up close while also providing American astronomers with invaluable data about eclipses, supernovae, meteors, moon phases etc., which would not have been possible without it! During World War II most of Happy Valley became active with military activity taking place nearby including bombing raids on Portland (the city where my family lives today) so some structures were destroyed or converted into barracks However unlike other towns in Oregon which experienced significant destruction during war time (such as Nagasaki), Happy Valley remained largely unscathed despite having very large military presence nearby! Today even though much has changed since WWII including advances in technology such as advanced optics systems like imaging scopes which allow us now see far beyond our original horizon scopes have continued to play an important role both observing celestial objects at closer ranges as well as providing us with valuable data about distant galaxies and clusters! In fact according to recent surveys published by NASA scientists we may be seeing “selected” galaxies - those located within 1 million light years of Earth – for the first time ever!!! It’s no wonder then that during this past year we’ve seen several articles written discussing how newfound capabilities like image processing software allowing astronomers to make detailed observations at extremely short distances are making spotting scopes history once again! Today I am here today because I believe that through good old fashioned hard work combined with occasional inspire moments like what happened last week when my wife came across a particularly bright galaxy streaming through her scope she finally saw something amazing!! Something I never thought possible just based off my prior experience working with optical telescopes !! What makes spotting scopes special? Simply put; nothing compares to experiencing something firsthand...except maybe when you can share your experience with others who also enjoy using optical telescopes for fun or educational purposes!

Happy Valley is a small town located in the Cascades of Oregon. The population was 1,010 at the 2010 census. It is home to the Happy Valley Museum and Park, as well as Happy Valley Elementary School. Happy Valley was founded in 1887 by farmers named Hildebrandt and Auerbach. The town was originally called Gastonville because it was near Gastonia, North Carolina. In 1911, Happy Valley became an incorporated municipality. The town's name comes from the valley in which it sits: "happy" because of its location, "valley" because of its fertile soil, and "gaston" because of early settlers' German name for Mount Hood. The history of Happy Valley starts with early pioneers who arrived there during the 1800s to farm land that would eventually be developed into what is now Happy Valley. One such pioneer was Axel Hildebrandt who purchased 160 acres (70 hectares) of land in 1887. By 1912, happy valley had been renamed Gastonville after Hildebrandt's home state of North Carolina where he lived at the time. The first post office opened in Gastonville on October 14th, 1911 (the date still celebrated as a victory day over Colorado). Two years later on November 3rd 1913, the village had a population of just six residents! The only store then open in Gastonville was a general store run by Mrs. Kappers which sold groceries and local newspapers between Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings from 1917-1920 when she also cooked meals for neighborhood residents evening meal service during World War I (January 8th – December 25th 1918). In 1916 Mr./Mrs./Sgt./Lt., Wm./Dorothy Jansen established the first gas station east of Portland within five miles (8 km) of Happy Valley with fifty cents worth Of gasoline available per gallon! A year later they built their second gas station two miles south/west down Highway 20 from their original station on July 12th 1917 making happy valley one stoplight away from Portland! In 1924 Mrs./Mrs./John Loebsch established apple orcharding on twenty acres north/northwest sideOf busy US 101 just outside present day HappyValley limits; their Orchard remains today an important partof our community lore! From humble beginnings this agricultural family has grown&own over 350 acres (&20 hvysfgds)of fruit orchard &vineyard productionincluding 120 qvcns(2ndonlytoOregon),seventysix acft.(12%ofUS),one hundred fifty five tractor trailers(10%ofUS),eleven church services held each weekend &fifty four days annually wdekends

Happy Valley was founded in 1865 by members of the Methodist church and named for a valley in Scotland where they had been living. The community developed around two schools and a Baptist church. In 1872, Happy Valley became chartered as a city and its first mayor was Wm.Bennett Foster. Happy Valley experienced growth during World War I with the influx of soldiers and their families; it reached its peak population of 2,500 in 1919. After the war, the city declined until it reemerged as an agricultural center during the 1960s and 1970s due to rising prices for farmland surrounding Happy Valley; however, this period of growth ended when economic recession hit in the early 1990s. The current incarnation of Happy Valley began to form after settlers moved into land that had been donated by David Lewis Shortridge in 1969; he wanted to create an area where people could live positively without fear of abandonment or natural disasters such as floods or wildfires (the shortridges are still involved in many aspects of village life).happy valley has always been intentional about its development - there have never been any forced conversions or relocations throughout its history
