Happy Valley is a small town in Oregon, and one of the few locations in the United States that has both an optical shop and a museum. The Optical Shop Museum was founded in 1978 by Dr. Harry S. Bemis, who also donated the building on which it stands. The shop offers a variety of optical products from around the world, as well aslectronic equipment and tools. In addition to its inventory, the shop also displays vintageand classic optical items from around the world. The museum is open every day except Mondays from 9am to 4pm; Admission is free for all visitors. Outside of its regular hours, there are special admission times for school students and members ofthe clergy with ID cards or passes from their church or synagogue. The history of optics begins with Greek philosophers such as Parmenides and Socrates who speculated about how light travels through thin air to reach us on earth. In 1838, British scientist John Herschel discovered what we now call “ Herschel’s Law” – sunlight reflects off materials at different angles according to their surface finish.) After this discovery, many inventors began trying to develop ways to make artificial light similar to that available from natural sunlight. One such inventor was Thomas Edison, who developed his own system for manufacturing electric lights using oil lamps (1879). In 1907, American physicist Albert Einstein predicted that light would be split into two types based on its wavelength – short-wavelength light (red/ orange etc) would be reflected back into space while long-wavelength light (blue/ violet etc) would pass through uninterruptedly without reflecting back any energy whatsoever! This theory became known as “Einstein’s Theory Of Special Relativity”! However, it wasn’t until 1960 that physicists finally realized just how accurate Einstein’s predictions were – when they observed that black holes have mass!

The company produced a wide range of photographic equipment, including cameras, lenses, filters, and albums. In 1957, British scientist Hugh Thomas invented an early form of white light recycling called photoconductivity which helped increase efficiency in many areas such as photochemistry and laser science.
In the 1870s, optical equipment was rudimentary at best. A man named Nicholas-Jacques Conte made a crude viewer that could only show single images on a small screen. In 1876, he invented an instrument called the Leydenoscope which allowed viewers to see three-dimensional objects. In 1887, Conte and his assistant, Charles Babbage developed the Analytical Engine which could be programmed to solve equations in real time. This technology would later be used in computers. In 1895, German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Ritter developed the first practical interferometer which could measure light interference patterns. This technology would lead to the development of radar and modern microwave radiation weapons.
Happy Valley is a small town in Oregon, located on the Eastern Oregon border. The town was founded in 1887 by Tom and Mary Hoadley, two farmers from Illinois. Happy Valley became aghost town when the railroad bypassed it in 1912.
