Gun swivels have been a part of American firearms for over 130 years. In 1857, John Brown and James Folsom patented their design for the first gun with a detachable magazine that could be inserted into either side of the weapon. The patent was later sold to Daniel Defense. The original pistol-grip swivels were designed by George Stephenson in 1859 and patented as the Stephenson Gun Swivel in 1861. That year, Adolphus Busch developed the “Busch Slingshot” which allowed users to pivot their pistols so they would point backward instead of forward like with traditional gun slingshots. This innovation became available to consumers in 1912 through his company, Rheinmetall Werke AG (RWA). During World War I, riflemen used pendulum sights while snipers used adjustable sights called periscopes to target enemy soldiers above them without having them see or hear them across distances greater than 100 yards. Pistolowners who wanted an easy way to engage targets at close range quickly discovered that using a gun sling was the answer they were looking for. The first telescopic grip guns emerged during World War II when armament manufacturers began designing specialized stocks specifically for use with pistol grips (known as "peacetime" stock handguns). Gun sling shooters enjoyed advantages over those using traditional sights because they could see targets much closer than those using periscopes or Pendulum Sights at ranges up to 350 yards! Richardson founded the first post office here, which served the community until 1907. Roosevelt established the Happy Valley Recreation Area to provide access to nature and birds near Portland for residents of Happy Valley and other nearby towns and villages. The park features hiking trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, fishing ponds, a water tower/laundry facility, a ski resort (Happy Valley Resort), various types of arts and crafts galleries, a library with an auditorium and several stores., three restaurants (Bread & Butter Cafe, Golden Corral BBQ & Grill and Grilled Cheese Place), two motels (The Lodge at McKenzie Lake Resort & Motel) as well as five residences: one for governors of Oregon from 1921 to 1959; one for directors of Hughes Aircraft Company; one for members of Congress from 1933 to 1945; one for mayors or commissioners from 1951 to 1957; four homes built specifically for citizens by Jens Meyerhoff Architects Inc.; six residences built by General Motors Corporation as part of their 1946 plant expansion into Oregon; two houses used as barracks during World War II by American Expeditionary Forces Headquarters before they were turned into housing}; two churches - First Baptist Church on Umpqua Street in downtown Happy Valley while Second Baptist Church was erected on property east side of Highway 97 southbound between McKenzie Lake Boulevard and Umpqua Avenue after being destroyed by fire in 1944; an Elementary School - Mrs. Earles Schoolhouse opened on December 12th 1912 serving grades Pre-K through 8th grade with additional kindergarten classes added later One important event that took place within this time frame happened on February 14th 1942 when General Douglas MacArthur arrived at Vancouver Airport outside Portland with his forces Operation Husky which included his army's III Corps attacking Japanese positions along the coast northwest of Vancouver Island including North Beach where he ordered all women outfitted with "Doodlebugs" or airborne parachutes so they could escape if needed during battle An interesting fact about this operation is that only men were allowed up high since most women wanted no part in combat On July 10th 1943 Captain Emory Sullenberger flew his P-2 Neptune aircraft carrying United States Marines under Lieutenant Colonel John McCain into airspace over Japan after seeing reports that Tokyo had fallen without any resistance following its bombing campaign known as The Great Liberal Massacre
Happy Valley, Oregon was founded in 1847 by Captain George Vancouver and his party on the edge of the Willamette Valley. The name "Happy Valley" is derived from a valley that was once part of present-day Portland. The first settlers were farmers who raised crops and hunted game nearpresent-day Happy Valley. In 1853, the town of Happy Valley was established as a post office with a population of just 10 people. In 1885, the United States Post Office Department renamed Happy Valley after Colonel John A. Houghton, Jr., an American general who had fought in Mexico and Peru during the American Civil War. The town continued to be called Happy Valley until it was dissolved in 1910 due to its small population and lack of resources.
