Happy Valley is a small town in the Wallowa County seat of Ashland, Oregon. The population was 2,765 at the 2000 census. Happy Valley is located on Interstate 5 about 20 miles east of Haymarket, Oregon and 40 miles west of Bend. The first gun magazines were started in this area by local farmers in the early 1900s. They used old barns as storage sites for handguns and shotguns. The first gun magazine in Happy Valley was called “The Rifleman” and it was started by C.B. Hinton in 1907. It was located on a farm across the road from the now defunct Happy Valley High School. In 1911, Mr. Hinton donated his land to form Happy Valley Park which included the current high school campus and part of what is now Rollins Road

The company became very successful and by 1908 it had built several elevators across the county including Happy Valley's first elevator which processed grains from 7 acres to 100 tons per day! The company townsite is now located within the city limits of Portland. 1) In 1911-12 Happy Valley Voters passed a proposal to annex part of present-day Portland into their municipality; this annexation did not take place due to objections from nearby Portlandites who felt that Salem would become too large (the annexed land was instead used as part of what is now called Pioneer Square). 2) On November 3rd 1912; during America's centennial year - as part of celebrations throughout the United States - Mayor Dyer proclaimed "Happy Valley Day" in honor of all those who have made or will make contributions thereto over the years Today Happy Valley has continued its progress despite some challenges such as housing affordability issues surrounding its proximity to larger cities like Portland

The name “Happy Valley” is derived from a logging camp called Happy Camp which was established in 1879 on the site of present-day Happy Valley. The Happy Valley area had been inhabited by Native Americans for thousands of years before white people arrived in what is now Oregon. In 1824, Captain John C[hristopher] Maynadier and his party of travelers discovered an ancient mining district in what is now Happy Valley and named it after Mount Hood (the mountain near Seattle). This discovery led to some early exploration and development in this region. In 1881, J.D[avid] Whitman set out from Portland with intentions of exploring all aspects of the Northwest United States. Heading southeast through Whatcom County he reached Happy Valley on October 25th. At first glance, Happy Valley may have seemed like an unremarkable ranching community surrounded by forested hillsides: However, upon closer inspection one could see that much had changed since Whitman’s visit two years earlier! The original logging camps were abandoned as timber prices plummeted during the Panic of 1893; but new camps were soon established throughout the valley to continue operations during those difficult times. Today, most residents are descendants or friends/family members of those who worked at or lived around the original logging camps during the 1800s and 1900s. Although many businesses have closed over time due to competition from neighboring towns or other sectors of local economy, there are still many nostalgic moments when one visits happyvalleyoregonhistorybuffalo Gap National Recreation Area where pioneer homesteaders built their homes back in 1865 just south of milepost 9 on Highway 97 North adjacent to today’s Brady Lake Resort
