It lies on the north side of the Willamette River and bordering Multnomah County to the east. Happy Valley is bordered by Thomasville to the south, Gresham to the west, and Beavercreek to the north. The name "Happy Valley" was given to it by Fur traders who named it after a valley in Scotland where they found abundant fruit trees. As early as 1814, an American Fur trader described Happy Valley as follows: "There are many valleys hereabouts, but none so pretty and pleasant as this one; its banks are covered with delicious wild grapes, while on either side runs a long stream that falls into a beautiful little river." In 1825 John Day explored Happy Valley and named it for his home state of Maine. In 1848 Portland entrepreneur David Bond purchased woodland in what is now Happy Valley from fur trappers for $5 per acre. He began planting rice crops and built houses around his farmstead later known as Bond House Village. The first post office in Happy Valley was established in 1850. By 1861, there were over 40 homes in the village and 30 businesses including two breweries (the present day brewery). By 1890, Happy Valley had declined because of lack of water supplies and farming neglect but revived when Bond started building dams upstream to improve water flow for downstream farmers.happyvalleyhistory

During the 1800s, firearms became more complex and required greater skill to operate. This led to the development of clothing that would protect a person from injuries while using a firearm. Gun owners started wearing clothing that covered their arms and legs with sleeves or pants that extended below the knee. This type of clothing helped protect people from getting shots in the arm or leg while they were using a firearm. In recent times, many people are now interested in owning firearms and wanting to learn more about them. As more people learn about firearms, they also want to buy new clothes that will protect them while they are using them. Many different manufacturers offer products specifically designed for use with firearms, so it is important to research what types of clothing are available before purchasing any new clothes for use with a weapon.

In 1847, John Day County was organized, and Happy Valley became its county seat. The first courthouse in Happy Valley was built on the site of today's post office. farming began to take off in Happy Valley after settlers discovered fertile land for agriculture around 1900. By 1910, more than 100 businesses had been established in Happy Valley, including a bank, grocery store, bakery, hotel/motel, schools (including an elementary school and a high school), churches (including one that later became salvation Army Church), cotton ginning mills and other agricultural enterprises. In 1922, a group of businessmen formed the Oregon Cotton Ginners' Association to promote cotton ginning in Oregon. The association helped expand production at several local cotton gins and eventually helped bring about increased crop yields throughout Oregon. In 1923-1924,HappyValley was home to the world's first annual livestock show when 109 animals were exhibited from 11 states and Canada.
