The Grants Pass Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in 1899. The club was originally called the "Oregon Rifle and Pistol Association." The name change to the "Grant's Pass Rifle and Pistol Club" in 1912. In 1924, the club changed its affiliation from the NRA to the American Legion. In 1940, the club changed its affiliation again to become a charter member of the Oregon Sportsmen's League. On July 1, 1941, Grant's Pass Rifle and Pistol Club became an affiliate of the National Shooting Foundation (NSF). NSF is a nonprofit organization that helps promote shooting safety by providing education on firearms handling and safety issues. NSF also distributes free handguns to members of its affiliate clubs. On January 3, 1945, Grant's PASS COUNCIL endorsed World War II veteran Harry Fenton as president of their club effective immediately. Harry had been active with both local rifle clubs in Oregon before he went into military service in 1942 as a sergeant at Fort Lewis near Seattle. He soon found himself leadership of two rifle clubs serving different parts of Oregon while also being heavily involved withNSF activities including participation in many meetings which helped develop rules for how handguns should be handled during wartime America’s involvement in World War II. After completing his service with distinction at Okinawa he returned home to lead Grants Pass RCPA until his death on October 17th, 1948 just five months after taking office when he fell ill suddenly at age 66 years old due to an overuse injury sustained several years earlier playing golf…. Grant Pass, Oregon is a small town located in the U.S. state of Oregon. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census and 7,569 as of 2016. It is the county seat of Grant County and part of the Portland metropolitan area. Grant Pass has been inhabited by Native Americans since before European settlement began in 1848. In 1887, the town was named after General George Washington Morrison, who became governor of Oregon during Reconstruction following the American Civil War. When word reached Morrison that gold had been found near Independence Rock on November 6, 1858 (the first known discovery of gold in Oregon), he immediately sent a party to investigate and claim any land that might be available for exploration. A group led by Captain John Tilton discovered gold on January 12, 1861; within weeks, other miners had followed suit and Grants Pass became an important center for gold mining activity in central Oregon. Grant Pass is a small city in Wasco County, Oregon, located on the Columbia River. The population was 997 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salem–Keizer, Oregon Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Grant Pass were Charles Goodyear and his family who arrived in 1847 from Cache Valley, Utah. Goodyear's father had been an employee of the U.S. government near Salt Lake City and he brought his family with him when he came to Oregon in 1847. In 1850, John Pemberton founded what is now Bendigo (later Medford) along the Willamette River and soon after Grant Pass became a hamlet full of American pioneers seeking new land opportunities. In 1861, local farmers petitioned Congress for a congressional road through Grant Pass so that goods could be transported more easily to points east. After years of effort by locals and Congress, construction finally began on the Union Pacific Railroad in 1872 and Grant Pass became one of its key stops along its route. The city also saw its heyday as an agricultural center due to its fertile soil and good water supply."
