In 1861 local ranchers started selling land around Grant Pass which led to its growth as a farming community during this time period In 1882 when Congress created Multnomah County, Grants Pass became one of its initial counties . Incorporated into Multnomah County were all of the previously unincorporated towns within Wallowa County including Grant Park (now known as Humble), Eagar (now known as Canby), Happy Valley (now known as Hood River) and many others . Grants Park would later become home toOregon State University
