In 1861, the Oregon Territory was created from parts of California and Nevada, and Grant Pass became part of Oregon. The population grew rapidly during the 20th century, with many businesses and homes built in what is now downtown Grants Pass. The growth has led to some problems, such as traffic congestion and pollution.
