Grant Pass, Oregon is a small town in the Western United States located on the banks of the Columbia River. The population was 7,873 at the 2010 census. It is part of Multnomah County. Grant Pass was first settled by European Americans in 1847. In 1909, it became an incorporated municipality and has grown steadily since then, becoming known for its manufactures and agriculture products. The community retains much of its pioneer spirit with annual festivals honoring local pioneers and historical events such as the Pioneer Days parade and fair. Grant Pass also features a museum featuring Native American artifacts from around the area as well as exhibits on climate change and forestry. Grant Pass is home to many small businesses including two wineries, four grocery stores, two restaurants, four churches (including one Baptist), two daycares/preschools, one post office (established in 1907), and one library (established in 1927).

Grant Pass is a town in Benton County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,875 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east bank of the Willamette River and about south of Portland. The first Europeans to visit Grant Pass were fur traders from Russia in 1825-26, and they named it after General Nicholas Gage's subordinates John Sutter and David Thompson who had journeyed upriver from California that year. The area was part of the Rogue River Indian Reservation until 1851 when it was transferred to Benton County. In 1872, George Washington Smith donated land to create Grant Pass Township with a population of fifty residents. In 1890, Grants Pass saw its first post office opening with Wm. Jenssen as the first address on Main Street. By 1902, Grants Pass had three churches: First Presbyterian (founded 1865), Methodist (1873), and Baptist (1894). By 1907 there were six churches and ninety-six residents in GrantPass Township alone. In 1938–39 an ice storm hit central Oregon which destroyed many homes including those in GrantPass Township. A $5 million program called "Operation Ice Storm" was created by Governor Lew Wallace to rebuild damaged homes throughout the state during World War II using federal funds split between Treasury Department agencies and private industry; this project also included reconstruction of GrantPass High School which reopened in 1945 following a $7 million renovation project initiated by then-Mayor Ollie Olsen relieved of his duties due to scandalous behavior while employed by Pacific Gas & Electric Company
In 1851, the first group of Mormons arrived in Oregon. The group was led by Brigham Young and consisted of about 30 men. They built a small cabin on the Pacific Coast and named it Nauvoo. In 1853, a large group of Mormons left Nauvoo for Illinois. About 100 people traveled overland to Missouri. A few weeks later, they were massacred by white settlers at Palmyra and Hastings. This event is known as the Mormon War.
