Gladstone, Oregon is a small town in the Siuslaw Valley of southeastern Washington. The population was 1,030 as of 2010. Gladstone is located east of Mount St Helens and west of Wenatchee. It lies on the east side of the Siuslaw River which forms its border with Chelan County to the north and south. The first European to visit Gladstone was George Vancouver in 1792 when he explored Puget Sound from Olympia to Saint Helens. In 1805, John McLoughlin built a trading post at what is now called McLoughlin Creek. Portland became known as "Gladstone" because John Walker died there in 1827 after leading an expedition down the Columbia River for the United States government during the Mexican-American War. The community began to grow rapidly due to lumbering and mining activity that took place around Gladstone Creek from about 1840 until 1900. By 1870, over one thousand people lived in Gladstone, most of them farmers who raised livestock and mined coal and silver at various locations around the creek bed. In 1907, Aube Gorman purchased land northeast of Gladstone Creek from Jenson & Ladd for $1 million dollars which he donated to buildMount St Helens State Park on it. When Mount St Helens erupted in 1917, parts of central Oregon were hit particularly hard including Gladstone where more than seventy homes were destroyed or damaged by ash fallout reaching as far away as Seattle. After years of planning and fundraising by local officials and citizens alike, Mount St Helens State Park was dedicated on October 14th, 1949 adjacent to Happy Hollow Cemetery near present day Walla Walla University campus across US Route 98E from downtown Gladstone

Gladstone, Oregon is located in the Pacific Northwest and was founded in 1847 by Jedediah Gladstone. The town was named for the British Prime Minister, William Gladstone, who had visited the area earlier that year and recommended it to his friend and business partner, John C. Frémont. The first permanent residents of Gladstone were frontier traders and entrepreneurs who arrived in 1849. In 1865, the town was renamed after Arthur A. Macdonald, the 10th Earl of Aberdeen, who had been a key figure in Canadian Confederation. The population of Gladstone peaked at around 1,500 in 1870 but declined during the late 19th century as transportation improved and trade decreased due to gold mining operations in nearby Nevada and California. However, things changed when ranchers began leasing land from local farmers for cattle ranching on what is now known as Main Street. This new industry sparked growth within Gladstone as people flocked to find jobs on these large properties. By 1900, there were over 100 businesses operating within Gladstonian borders and its economy had begun to revive thanks to increased sheep farming opportunities as well as tourism which became an important part of local culture. In 1922, a fire destroyed most of downtown Gladstone but this didn’t stop locals from continuing their businesses or from rebuilding their homes throughout the rest of the decade. During World War II, many residents worked onproduce farms located near Bendigo while others served in military units or worked odd jobsorno rural areas around Australia while they awaited word on whether they would be drafted into service. However, despite this turmoil overall life remained relatively stable until 1957 when a severe drought caused food prices to skyrocket which led to widespread poverty among locals. As a result of this crisis various attempts were made over the next few years to improve education and healthcare services but these failed miserably due to financial constraints faced by all involved parties - including Gladstonians themselves - Horizon Housing Corporation having already left town for good by then).
