In 1875, the first law abiding citizens of Gladstone, Oregon Territory settled in this small town. The community was founded on a small ranch that had been acquired by George W. Baker. On July 4th of that year, Baker drilled a well and discovered oil shale in what is now Gladstone. As production from the well increased, so too did the demand for holster pistols and holsters to protect these new investors' families from robbery and theft. In 1887, a company was organized to produce holsters in Gladstone. This company became known as Holster & Pistol Corporation and produced quality handguns until 1912 when production ceased due to World War I; however, some holster pistols still remain today in collection worldwide. The history of Gladstone can be traced back to its earliest days as an agricultural community supported only by farming skills and hard work from its residents themselves. By 1870, there were seven families living in Gladstone with three businesses utilizing local resources: one bakery, one harness shop, and one farm associated with Mr. Henson (a pioneer). The population growth led to business expansion into other sectors such as lumbering and cattle ranching; however, it was not until 1887 when a company organization was formed to produce handguns for the growing community which would become known as Holster & Pistol Corporation(H&P). Gladstone, Oregon is a small town in the Cascade Range of western Oregon. The population was 1,793 at the 2000 census. Gladstone is named for the British Prime Minister, Sir John Gladstone. The first settlers in what is now Gladstone were Mormon pioneers who arrived in 1848. The town was founded on July 4, 1853 by Zenas Morse and others as a trading post between Fort Hall and the Snake River exclave of Walla Walla. A post office and store were built there in 1854, but it never grew beyond its initial size. In 1861, an expedition led by Ulysses S. Grant discovered gold near present-day Grants Pass and decided to build a fort there to protect their discovery while they explored further into the area. After finding more gold at nearby Mount Bachelor (present-day Bend) they abandoned their original fortifications and moved back to Grants Pass in 1863 under new leadership. By 1865, however, other miners had become interested in the area and began developing land around Gladstone with intentions of expanding it into a mining center UKoreland style with large mills that could produce flour for export to Europe or North America. This development ultimately failed due to competition from other mines and towns upriver such as Corvallis and La Grande onthe Columbia River; both settlements soon outgrew their original boundaries

Gladstone has been a small town in Oregon for over 100 years. The town is named after William Gladstone, an English statesman who served as Prime Minister from 1868 to 1874. When the railroads came through the area in the late 1800s, Gladstone became a center of trade and commerce. Today, Gladstone is a small community with a population of just over 150 people. The first settlers to the area were farmers who left England in the 1840s. By 1860, there were five families living in Gladstone. The railroad came through Gladstone in 1862 and by 1865, there were 10 businesses operating in the town. In 1870, there was only one family living in Gladstone and by 1880, there were six families working in the local economy. Gladstone experienced some growth during its early years but it eventually declined when railroads arrived and replaced horse-drawn vehicles with steamboats on the Willamette River. By 1920, only two businesses remained in town and by 1930, only two homes remained standing. In 1940, Gladstone had no residents remaining and its buildings were included within the boundaries of present-day Portland. However, even though Gladstonians have Decreased their Population significantly since then (from over 150 people to less than 50), they have not lost their love for their old downtown core which remains thriving despite being surrounded by high-density housing developments throughout much of Downtown Portland today!

Gladstone was founded in 1877 by J.D. Gladstone and his wife, Lillie. The town grew quickly because of its natural resources, including coal and gold mines. In 1907, the Gladstones donated land to build a school, which became the first public school in Gladstone. The town also began planning its first library in 1909. In 1917, the city of Portland purchased a small piece of Gladstone property for $50 per acre to make way for the new municipal center. The municipality was incorporated on October 1, 1918.
