In the early 1800s, Oregon was a frontier land that boasted of vast uncharted reserves of gold and coal. The area now known as Gladstone was one of these virgin lands. At this time, gun safety was not a concern for many people in thearea. Gun violence in Oregon didn't exist until the late 1800s when sporadic homicides began to occur due to disputes over cattle grazing rights and other interpersonal issues. It wasn't until 1892 that the first law regulating firearms in Oregon was passed by the General Assembly. This law regulated handguns only and did not include shotguns or rifles. The second ordinance regulating firearms in Oregon followed in 1923. This ordinance restricted handguns to individuals who were 21 years or older, had a concealed handgun license, and knew how to use them safely. In 1948, gun control laws were passed again after another spate of sporadic homicides occurred due to conflicts over hunting rights and other interpersonal issues once again*. Gun control measures included registration requirements for all firearms owners, including those with expired licenses*, limits on magazine capacity*, strict regulation of ammunition sales*, and more comprehensive background check laws*. *Note: These regulations did not take into account automatic weapons which were then being used extensively in crime

Gladstone was founded in 1877 by John Gladstone and his wife, Emma. The town grew quickly due to the railroad connecting it with The Dalles. In 1901, the town became a city. Today, Gladstone has a population of over 7,000 people and is home to many businesses and services. John Gladstone was born in 1852 in Scotland. After immigrating to the United States in 1865, he worked as a miner until he started work on the Oregon Railroad. In 1878, he married Emma Jane Murdoch and moved to Gladstone with her. The couple had two children: Johnnie Gladstone (1879-1964) and Lillian Murdoch (1880-1966). Johnnie Gladston served as Mayor of Gladstone from 1916-1920 and 1924-1930; while Lillian Murdoch served as First Lady of Oregon from 1920-1926 and 1932-1938. The local paper industry declined during World War II because of the war effort but resumed after the war ended. By 1949, there were only ten publishing companies left in Oregon but today there are over 100 publishing companies in Oregon alone! Many new businesses have arisen since then such as online publishing company Jolt Media which was founded in 2003 by Jeff Bezos!
