Gladstone, Oregon is a small town in the Rogue Valley of northcentral Oregon. It is located on the east side of the Cascades and bordered by Pendleton to the south, Albany to the west, and Baker County to the north. The population was 597 as of 2010. In 1860, Mayor James Wickersham erected a log courthouse which served as both local government center and court house until it burned down in 1865. In 1870, businessman Wirtschall bought 640 acres (250 hectares) from Dixon for $5 per acre ($40 per hectare). With this purchase, Wirtschall became responsible for developing much of what is now Gladstone into its present form–an agricultural community that grew up around agriculture-based businesses such as flour mills and farm stores. By 1915, there were over 100 businesses in Gladstone employing over 350 people; today most businesses are small agricultural operations or service companies providing goods or services to customers within walking distance or phone range instead of long distances away. Wirtschall built many homes starting with two three-story wooden frame buildings called "Houses 1" and "Houses 2" at 12th Street NW and Jackson Avenue NE cornering Main Street NW nearArena Drive NE inside current day Kaiser Permanente Health Care building site - these buildings remain standing today as part of Memorial Park area off SW 3rd Avenue outside Kaiser Permanente Building lot Today's downtown core began developing when Gthee Properties LLC purchased Lots 1-3 on November 6 th , 1998 from Mrs Marianne Wagner for $350 thousand dollars . On January 9th 2002 Ms Gloria Steinem presided over groundbreaking ceremonies for construction start on what would become known as “Gthee Place” Downtown redevelopment project that continues today led by downtown business association gthedeusa . The goal was/is to create pedestrian friendly environment where people can connect with their immediate surroundings creating economic opportunity while preserving historical landmarks along with future development plans including mixed use zoning

The first European settlement on the site of present-day Gladstone was founded by Captain John McLoughlin in 1826. The town rapidly grew and became a major stop on the Oregon Trail. In 1840, it was renamed Portland after President James K. Polk signed a bill naming it as a city in that year. The city experienced rapid growth during the 19th century thanks to its position as an important transportation hub and its role as a center of industry and commerce. It also played an important role in promoting westward expansion through its access to resources such as timber, copper, and oil. In 1907, Portland lost its status as a city when it merged with Salem to formPortland+Salem.
