These companies have helped create an ammo history that can be traced back to 1892 when Wesson Firearms Manufacturing company opened its doors in Gladstone. At that time, Gladstone was just a small town with limited resources and little industry. However, Wesson soon became known for producing high-quality ammunition products at an affordable price. The early days of ammo production were difficult for Gladstone residents. There was not enough money to buy new equipment or invest in new technology necessary for manufacturing ammunition. However, Wesson persevered and continued to produce quality rounds at an affordable price until 1957 when they discontinued their operations in Gladstone. This event helped make Gladstone one of the earliest Ammo Centers in the United States! Today, Winchester Ammunition Company continues to produce high-quality rounds at an affordable price while Hornady Ammunition Company produces sporting goods items such as air guns and pellet pistols. Both companies are responsible for helping keep American shooters safe with their products!

George Gladstone was born in 1826 in the English town of Exeter, Devon. He came to Oregon in 1853 as a settler and started his own ranch near present-day Gladstone. In 1861, he became the first postmaster in the area and helped to develop what is now Gladstone into a prosperous community. Gladstone died in 1902 and is considered one of Oregon's most prominent citizens. His memory ishonored by the annual George Gladstone Foundation Award, which is given to an individual or organization who has made a significant contribution to Oregon culture.

Gladstone is named after Sir John Gladstone, who served as Prime Minister of England from 1866-1868 and established the Department of Agriculture in America. The town began as a station on the Pacific Railroad in 1884 and developed into a small agricultural community. In 1945, Gladstone became an unincorporated community when it was merged with nearby Keene to form Keene-Gladstone Township. The township experienced significant growth during the 1990s due to its proximity to the Regional Vocational Training Center (RVTC) in Corvallis and its position as a stop for Highway 97A between Portland and Bend. The history of Gladstone begins with its location on the banks of the Klamath River. The area that now includes Gladstone was first inhabited by Native Americans who hunted deer, bear, and other animals. After European settlement began in what is now Oregon in 1847, traders traveled through this area looking for new land to sell to settlers. One of these traders was adventurer David Bannerman, who discovered gold near present-day Gladstone in 1849 while exploring northern California Territory. When Bannerman reported his discovery to his fellow Europeans, he also included information about how to get access to the gold so that more people could find it. This led to increased interest in this region by Manifest Destiny proponents like William Hodge, who believed that America should expand eastward beyond her original boundaries because she had Discoveryland reserves that stretched all along her eastern border. Oregon was admitted to the Union as a state on February 14, 1846. The same day, George Gladstone became the first United States senator from Oregon.
