Forest Grove, Oregon is a town in Clatsop County, Oregon, United States. The population was 10,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Forest Grove were the Umpqua Indians in 1825 and they named it "Truckee" after their leader Truckee River. In 1848, about fifty people from Eugene founded the town on land that had been granted to them by Captain John Sutter as part of his Donation Land Act of 1850. The townsite was settled by women and children who cleared forest reserves near present-day Forest Grove and built homes around a small creek called Willamette Valley Creek. In 1863, when Fort Vancouver was established at the junction of what are now Capitol Street and Southwest Boulevard in downtown Portland, some residents decided to move toPortland so they could have access to the fort's goods and services. Some of these residents formed a group called "Forest Grove Association" which leased land northeast of downtown from Jules Pierrepont Healy for ."Forts Point", later renamed Healy Park; this plot became known as Forest Grove because many trees were planted there during its early years." In 1865–66 two groups of men bought 2,000 acres (810 hectares) east of where Forest Grove now stands from George Hearst (a wealthy rancher) and others involved in the settling process. One group landscaped much of what is now Pioneer Square while another erected buildings including School Hill House which still stands today along Southeast Sixth Avenue (). These early settlers were followed by more families until 1920 when only 8% remained living within city limits with most clustering around Pioneer Square or Healy Park/Parkland Center.. The first post office opened in 1867 but due to occasional bad weather mail was delivered via wagon upriver to Eugene every day instead of waiting for trains which arrived twice daily at Fort Vancouver). Eventually an omnibus service became available ($1 per letter) which allowed for more efficient delivery.. That same year saw the construction of City Hall (), one block northwest of Main Street on what is now First National Bank Plaza; this building served as both courthouse and public library until 1926 when it burned down.. . By 1880 there were over 100 residences surrounded by open ground either side of Willamette Valley Creek where pioneer settlement began: Topping off at would be Mount Hood Cemetery () south west corner today's Lloyd Center Shopping Centre (). Most properties here reverted back into forest reserve status between 1886-1910 despite efforts by developers such as Adolphus Wiman () to subdivide many parcels into individual homes starting about 1910 onward primarily due to increased growth outside city limits following World War I.(Post Office continued serving City Limits until 1974.) After annexation by Portland in 1898 most residents left for good except for a few who retained ownership rights through deeds or patents() until 1906 when all property within city limits became Public Lands under managementofthe Department Of Forestryand Wildlife (). Today Forest Grove has regained much lost former population with over 11% growth since 2000 according Asheville Lumber Company moves begin expanding logging operations out into unincorporated Clatsop County

Forest Grove is a small town in Oregon, located about an hour's drive north of Portland. The community was founded in 1865 by settlers from Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and became known for itsapping (a type of tree-cutting) and forestry activities. Forest Grove grew rapidly during the 1960s and 1970s as large areas of the forest were gifted to the town through land sales or donation. Today, Forest Grove remains a vibrant community that thrives on its close-knit relationships with its neighbours. The history of Forest Grove begins with early settler George French. Frenchman arrived in Oregon in 1847, settling on the east side of the Columbia River near present-day Portland. He built a cabin called French Fort on what is now State Street in downtown Forest Grove. In 1850, Frenchman sold his holdings to Captain John McLoughlin, who sailed downriver to become the first white man to view Mount Hood from shoreline. After reaching Oregon City, McLoughlin donated land around Dutchman Bayou to Forest Grove as part of a gift to the town. When General David Silliman took command of United States troops stationed at Fort Vancouver in 1855, he ordered one hundred men to clear land south of where Forest Grove now stands for use as grazing pastures for his horses and cattle. The result was what are now known as Dutchman Creek Ranchlands – today’s forest boundaries were set forth shortly after this event when Major General Winfield Scott orderedeer hunters off Canadian property following their successful hunts for wild deer in 1862. In 1865, Forrest Fenton purchased 1/4 mile (0.18 km) west of present-day ForestGrove from Captain John McLoughlin for $200 ($8 per acre). Fenton developed this area into what is now known as ForrestFenton Park – home to various businesses including a post office and several churches over the years. The arrival of railroads led to increased traffic throughout much eastern Oregon during the late 1800s; by 1900, ForestGrove had become one of only a handful remaining villages along Highway 99 northward from Tillamook County across Interstate 5 into Douglas County seat Modoc Junction due largely to timber depletion along most portions of I-5 betweenPortland and Bend - see logging History Timeline . At about this time too residents began developing their own homes within blocks or even two miles (3 km) radius rather than travelling long distances each time they needed goods or services such as haircuts or ice cream1 Timber Deforestation also accelerated after 1886 when sawmills closed operations due primarily to increasing bark beetle infestation which prevented harvesting more valuable chunks off older trees; however some mills did still operate until 19492 ForrestFenton Park resident Wessie Hutter opened her first grocery store at 5th & Jefferson Streets in 18983 By 1904 there were twelve stores open inside ForrestFenton Park with another ten operating out side it Additionally three restaurants operated: The White House Cafe at 9th &Avenue NW corner SW fireplaces served refreshments nightly starting 1922 four times weekly Frontier Restaurant opened adjacent northeast corner lot 1912 Wessie Hutter married rancher Asa Hutchinson on November 10 th 1912 4 Hutchinsons descendants still live there today
