The first gun parts made in Forest Grove, Oregon were muzzleloaders. In 1881, G. W. Fenton and his brother-in-law David Hargrave started a blacksmith shop on Third Street in the town. They produced muzzleloading guns and pistols with their own tools. In 1886, they opened a second business, The Gun Store, which continued to sell firearms until it closed in 1922. In 1897, A. S. Morse and his son Amos set up a forge near the town limits to make nails for shotguns and rifles using an old sawmill blade as a cutting tool. Over time, othersmiths added to the forge stock including Hargrave & Fenton who became known as the "Old Guns." The Morse family operated the forge until 1951 when it was destroyed by fire. In 1903, Forest Grove voters passed an ordinance allowing residents to carry handguns without permits outside of their homes or businesses. This law led to the start of a gun culture in Forest Grove that continues today with widespread carrying of handguns throughout the community by both legal citizens and those who choose not to have them regulated by government restrictions

Forest Grove, Oregon is a small town in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,898 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. Forest Grove is located on the Clackamas River and borders Multnomah County to the east and north; Washington County to the west; and Josephine County to the south. The first people in Forest Grove were Native American settlers who came from Northern California in 1847. They named their settlement after a grove of trees near what is now downtown Portland. The first store in Forest Grove was established in 1852 by Wm. Halsey and it served as a stop on the Oregon Central Railroad. In 1860, Jno. Ayer bought land at what is now Fourth Street and Market Street for $2,000 and began building a home that would become known as "Ayer's House." In 1865, John Capps settled at what are now Fourth Street and Market Street with his family. He became one of the early merchants in Forest Grove and started selling groceries, eggs, flour, butter, sugar beets (a type of beet), cattle, horses and other goods from his house on Third Avenue between SW Morrison Road (now SW Yamhill Avenue)and SE Starkweather Road (now SE Broadway). In 1880–1881 he built a two-story frame gristmill on NE Seventh Avenue which stopped working because of lack of water but still remains standing today as an historical landmark. In 1892 Mrs. Fannie Broughton started a school for children at Northeast Seventh Avenue between Morrison Road (now SW Yamhill Avenue)and SE Starkweather Road (now SE Broadway). That year also saw the erection of First Methodist Church which stands today at NE Sixth Avenue between Morrison Road (now SW Yamhill avenue)and SE Starkweather road (now SE Broadway). From 1890 until 1912 there was also an electric light plant operated by Ayer & Bros., Incorporated at 3505 NW 21st Ave., Suite 204 which provided service to much of northeastern Clackamas County including most of present day Forest Grove along with parts or all present day Astoria , Rosesburg On July 12th 1920 CLACKAMAS COUNTY ELECTRICITY COOPERATIVE INCORPORATED BEING organized came into existence with its original office located at 3505 NW 21st Ave., Suite 204 within walking distance from our current location! This company furnished electricity to many homes & businesses within clackamas county! We look back upon this event with great pride!
Forest Grove was founded in 1851 by Obadiah Morse and James H. Caldwell, two of the first white men to settle in Oregon. The town was named after a grove of trees that stood near the original site of the village. In 1875, Forest Grove became the first city in Oregon.
