The first gun targets in Eugene were erected in 1885 by the Citizens' Rifle and Pistol Club. In 1895, Eugene's firstgun show was held at the Oregon States Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds were also home to the first private rifle range in Oregon. Eugene saw a rapid increase in gun target shooting during World War I. Gun ranges across the city were built, and military service members often brought their rifles into town to shoot at targets. In 1924, Eugene's first public open-air shooting range was opened on Cedar Street near Willamette University. It remained open until 1978 when it was closed due to construction of the nearby Interstate 5 freeway. Today, Eugene continues to see increased interest in gun target shooting with several new ranges opening up over the past few years including one on NE 99th Street just east of downtown which is now home to an indoor pistol range as well as a reloading store and ammo rack.

Gun Targets became necessary due to their effectiveness at discriminating between friendly and hostile combatants whileodicating on small areas or individuals under attack. In 1945, when the end of World War II finally arrived, bombardments over Japan revealed scores of destroyed homes filled with explosives - some weeks after they had been destroyed by American forces! Ammunition shortages led to increased interest in gun targets during the postwar years; however, they remain an important part of target shooting today worldwide

Eugene, Oregon is a city of over 50,000 people located in the far south-central corner of Oregon. The area now comprising Eugene was first settled by European Americans in the 1830s. The city proper was founded in 1873 as a small town on the east bank of the Willamette River. It grew rapidly during the early 20th century due to its location and importance as an agricultural center. Eugene became a state capital in 1907 and has since been home to many major political and cultural events. In recent years, however, Eugene has experienced significant growth thanks to its strong economy and growing population. Today, Eugene is considered one of the most liveable cities in America. Eugene’s history can be traced back to at least 1833 when members of what would become the United States Congress passed a bill creating a new territory along the Willamette River called Deschutes County. This area would later become part of Oregon. On December 4, 1835, James Kapp filed paperwork with U.S. District Court naming Eugene his temporary county seat and setting off what would become one of Oregon’s most important periods in its history – until 1945 when Salem took over that role.* In 1843–44 James Kapp built what is now known as Pioneer House* on land he had acquired from Chief Joseph Smith* during their original Mormon settlement near present day Springfield.* Kapp developed this property into one of the largest cotton plantations in central Oregon; it produced more than 2 million pounds (1 million kg) of cotton throughout its heyday from 1800 through 1865.* In 1861 Kapp sold his plantation to John Atherton for $10,000.* Atherton became one of Eugene’s earliest commercial success stories; within five years he had founded two successful grocery stores and several other businesses including furniture Manufacturer Morse & Co., drugs store J H R Walnut & Co., livery stable Porter & Potter*, insurance company Union Pacific Railroad Company*,and water works company Wascana Dam*. At this time employment opportunities for black laborers increased significantly across northwestern North America† [*See sidebar “ worker migration after world war 1″ ]. Eugene was founded in 1853 by Captain George Robison and his wife, Betsy. The city was named for General John C. Fremont, who had fought for the United States in the Mexican-American War. In 1871, Eugene became the capital of Oregon. The city's downtown was destroyed by a fire that burned for days in 1906, but it has since been rebuilt. The University of Oregon is located in Eugene.
