The first handguns that were shot with this tool were pistols by the Eugene Rifle and Pistol Club in 1911. Machineguns became legal in Oregon on December 15, 1934. In 1935, the Eugene Rifle and Pistol Club resumed using their handgun hammer but changed it to an automatic riflehammer since they no longer needed to repair firearms anymore. The first automatic rifles manufactured in Oregon were equipped with this tool from 1936 until 1940. From 1941 through 1945, all handguns manufactured in Oregon were equipped with this tool except for those that were classified as machineguns (i.e., devices that could fire more than one shot at a time). Atlatl (a primitive stone tool) points back upriver from where Portland now stands to where La Salle anchored his ship during his July 5th expedition along today's Interstate 5 near milepost 21st on Aug 4th 1775 while he attempted an overnight passage across Elliott Bay which he judged impossible due largely to navigation problems then prevailing among Native Americans including local guides Pakwahtuk (Ajax) & Tukwila (Bullhead City).
