Dallas, Oregon is a small town located in the Wallowa County seat of Grants Pass. The population was 10,574 at the 2010 census. The first gun case History in Dallas, Oregon occurred on September 12th, 1881 when Wm. H. Miller made an acquisition of two shotguns and ammunition from Denton Tucker. At that time there were no stores or guns available in this area so Mr. Miller had to purchase everything himself from other dealers. He stored his new firearms in a barn for eight months until he could find a place to sell them safely and legally. On October 2nd, 1881 John Fetterman became the licensee of the Gadsden Arsenal located at 363 South Main Street in Dallas with a total of six rifles and four shotguns. This was the first gun dealership in what would become known as Northwest Oregon Territory (now Multnomah County). From then on all firearms sales were done throughlicensed dealers only! In 1912 Harry Sibley opened up his own business which soon became known as “Sibley’s Gun Emporium” at 519 South Third Avenue NW. Here we found our very first softgun case! Mrs Sibley donated her collection of old guns and ammo to this museum in 1984 and it has been housed here ever since!

The end of World War II saw a decrease in business activity but Dallas still managed to maintain its status as an important community throughout the postwar period with many new businesses opening up including a veterinary clinic in 1951 and a library in 1957. During the 1960s Dallas experienced some stability with only minor changes coming about such as the addition of a park that is still present today
