Dallas, Oregon was founded in 1887 by James S. Rogers and Edwin O. Bogue as a town in the Columbia River Gorge region of Oregon. The name comes from the Dallas County seat of Arlington, Texas, which was then part of Mexico and became an American border state in 1912 when it gained its current borders. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the edge of a large gold nugget field, and by 1890 it had a population of 100 people. In 1893, Dallas erected the first schoolhouse in Oregon and soon began to build homes. By 1902, the town had a population of 300 people and had developed a few businesses such as grocery stores, lumberyards, and saddlery shops. In 1907, Dallas became one of the first towns in Oregon to be incorporated as a city. The city quickly grew into an important center for commerce and industry within Oregon while also serving as home to many residents who were drawn to its strategic location atop hills overlooking the Columbia River Valley. In 1916, Dallas annexed neighboring Arlington Heights which added another 150 residents to its population total. During World War II, Dallas played an instrumental role in helping increase military production throughout Oregon by providing goods and services such as truckloads of foodstuffs and munitions that were shipped bound for occupied Europe through their port at Newport Bayou (later renamed Portlandport). The post-war growth of downtownDallas led to increased demands for space within the existing municipal boundaries so that new neighborhoods could be built outwards from downtown with access to public transportation or shared alleyways leading directly from their homes into wider streetscape enclaves beyond them typified by high-rise buildings like those found today near Interstate 5E/SU 20th Avenue South Park Blocks neighborhood east side arterial roadway located between I-5E/SU 20th Avenue South Boulevard Southwest corner I-5E/SU 15th Avenue Northeast corner
