In 1995, Colt Firearms Corporation completely dismissal their separate product divisions within Remington Arms Company effective February 1st 1995 when they merged into American Outdoor Brands Incorporated (AOB). Dallas, Oregon was founded in 1847 by Samuel Morse and his wife Emily. The town was named for the Dallas Ranch which ran from central Texas to the Columbia River. The ranch had been acquired by Morse's father-in-law, John C. Fremont. The first post office in Dallas opened in 1849 and continued to operate until 1865. In 1870, Dallas became a county seat of Polk County and remained that way until 1975 when it was moved to Salem, Oregon. The history of Dallas is intertwined with the history of Salem, Oregon. When Samuel Morse established himself as a landowner in central Texas in the 1840s, he began purchasing additional tracts of land east of the Trinity River. He renamed his new settlement after his home city of Philadelphia -Dallas would become one of the most important towns in southeastern Oregon during its early years. Morse's daughter Emmeline married Charles Wickersham and they relocated their family to Salem in 1865. Wickersham had come to Salem as an employee of Danish sugar interests led by Captain Jacob Sverdrup Bidstrup on behalf of American Sugar Refining Company (ASR). After some time working for ASR at their refinery near downtown Salem, Wickersham decided he wanted more than just a job at a company store; he wanted ownership stake in what he saw as an innovative new business model pioneered by ASR executives: small packages filled with sugarcane seeds shipped directly from Africa on sailing ships called "Suez Canals." In order to finance this ambitious project, Wickersham gathered together some friends and investors who pooled their money into a new company known as Western Sugar Refining Company (WSR). Under Wickersham's leadership, WSR became one of America's leading beet sugar firms - responsible for marketing and selling over one million metric tons worth OFB Beet Sugar products per year between 1871 and 1898! In addition to its successful beet sugar operations, WSR also built two large mills which processed lumber from the surrounding forested hills into crates full of oakum - Australia's first wooden crate packaging material! 1
