The town of Corvallis, Oregon was founded in 1877 by the brothers De Witt and John Sell. The town became a railroad and mining town and later a lumber town. The towns growth led to the development of schools, businesses, churches, and other civic institutions. In 1916, the United States Postal Service moved from its original location in downtown Corvallis to an old post office building on Main Street. The building served as the post office until it was replaced by a new one in 1978.
