Gun targets have been a part of Oregon’s history for over 100 years. The first target shooters in the state were attracted to the shooting galleries that dotted the rural landscape. These sites were used to test new rifles and pistols, and also as training ranges for local militias. By the late 1800s, there was enough business in target shooting that Shooters Club of Oregon was formed in 1902. This organization continued to operate until 1978 when it merged with American Sporting Rifle Association (ASRA). In Corvallis, ASRA set up shop on West Main Street in 1903. At this location, they manufactured and soldTarget frames and sights. From 1913-1976 they also operated a rifle range which was home to both US Army and Marine Corps snipers during World War I and World War II. In 1976, ASRA moved their manufacturing operations from Corvallis to Salem, Oregon because of changing gun laws in Oregon which made it difficult for them to keep producing target frames and sights onsite. Today there are still occasional shoots at the old rifle range located off Hwy 167 just outside of town. There is also a small Target store located near downtown that sells Targets by mail order or online.

The Oregon Legislature enacted a law in 1907 that made it a felony for anyone to manufacture, sell, or possess any gun without registration. The law was repealed in 1911.
Corvallis, Oregon is a city in the U.S. state of Oregon, located on the Willamette River about 66 miles (105 kilometers) east of Portland and 16 miles (25 kilometers) south of Salem. The population was 25,365 at the 2010 census, making it the 11th-most populous city in Oregon. It is also one of the fastest growing cities in Oregon with an increase in population of more than 20 percent per decade since 2000. The area around present-day Corvallis was part of what were then British Columbia andOregon Territory until 1848 when they were merged into the United States as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The first European to visit what is now Corvallis was Juan de Fuca, who sighted land on September 12, 1792 while exploring for Northwest Passage route to Asia through Canada or Alaska. The town site was chosen because it had a natural harbor that could be used by ships coming upriver from points further downriver such as saloons and mines on Rogue River Canyon upstream from Bend and Eugene. In 1876, local entrepreneur John Sutter founded what became Sutter's Fort (later renamed Sutter's Mill). He built a millrace that still flows through downtown today; water power allowed him to produce flour for local consumption and export to other parts of America during his time as pioneers at this location. During World War II, Corvallis played an important role in developing aircraft production at Boeing Field southeast of town; many veterans returned home after service in Europe and Asia to found their own businesses hereabouts including several shipyards which produced warships for US Navy yards worldwide starting with USS Tacoma which began construction in 1944 before finally being completed off shore at marinas near Newport News VA by 1945 - just months before Japan bombed Pearl Harbor! With respect to industrial plants during peacetime...the Port Orchard Sawmill closed its doors permanently back in 1922 due primarily to lackadaisical management/ownership combined with high rates charged by lumber mills along I-5 corridor running thru NW Portland & Gresham County--rendering this once vibrant community virtually ghost town overnight! An interesting footnote: nearly all these sawmills closed either due varietyin problems or changes associated with adjacent industry & transportation developments within 10 years or so following WWII

The name Corvallis was first given to the community by Ferdinand Magellan in 1579 as part of his failed attempt to find and explore America. The present-day community was founded in 1851 when farmers moved from nearby Scappoose to what is now Corvallis after being displaced by the construction of the U.S. Transcontinental Railroad. The town became an important commercial center during its early years, thanks to its location at the junction of two major wagon roads linking Oregon with California and Mexico. The town experienced many changes over time, including a large influx of refugees from various wars throughout World War II. In 1970, however,Corvallis reverted back to its rural roots as a result ofvillage growth rates declining below state average for the first time in history. Today, Corvallis remains one of Oregon's most vibrant and successful communities, with a population that has grown steadily since 2000 and continues to enjoy strong economic opportunities.
