The first firearms in Corvallis were pistols. The first rifles were invented by Auguste Chasse and Daniel Webster in 1836. In 1882, the Oregon Rifleman Magazine printed an article on how to make a rifle using old cannons that had been converted into firearms. This was the beginning of gun manufacturing in Corvallis. In 1913, the Oregon Legislature passed a bill making it legal to carry any type of handgun without a license or permit. This made Corvallis one of the first cities in Oregon to have this type of regulation. Since then, there has been growth in gun manufacturing and sales in Corvallis. Corvallis, Oregon is a town located in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. The population was 13,853 at the 2010 census. The United States Geological Survey has identified five Peaks in Corvallis: Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams, Cascade Mountains and Hells Canyon. These peaks are part of the Cascades National Park and provide excellent mountaineering opportunities for those interested in hiking or skiing to the top. The town was founded by pioneers on October 15, 1859 as Fort Davenport after they were driven out of what is now Seattle by Native Americans. The fort served as a trading post until 1861 when it became a military garrison. In 1862, General Ulysses S. Grant named the small town after his wife Julia Child because she had been instrumental in getting Oregon statehood and helping to make Corvallis an important center for trade with settlers throughout its history. The first post office opened in 1865 and closed in 1868 due to lack of mail service from Portland. It reopened in 1870 under the name of Wenatchee Depot before changing to its current name two years later when postal service arrived from Portland via stagecoach service. As more people moved into the area and businesses began opening up, the townsfolk decided that Fort Davenport would no longer be an adequate name for their new settlement so they changed it back to Corvallis on November 1st, 1876. As Corvallis grew increasingly populated during World War II due to Lend-Lease supplies coming through the port at Port Orchard (now Crater Lake), many factories were built along Railroad Avenue which bisected downtown between First street east and Second street west (now SW Broadway). During this time many noteworthy people made their homes here including Don Armstrong who designed and built Portland’s first electric streetcar system; Wally Purdy who ran Pacific Gas & Electric Company’s Delivery Service Department; Rich Potter who developed ORSEO software; Edwin Starr who wroteOregon bound books for World War II soldiers; etc.). After the war ended most of these residents left but some continued on into their 70s and 80s well beyond what most people do today! Some notable examples include Goldie Hawn whose father operated her grandfather’s grocery store down First Street until he retired at 92; Norma Rae Jeter who lived across from Army Air Forces Base Lewisburg until her death at 93; etc.). Homesickness wasn't something that residents felt alone with though - there was always plenty of food available both sourced local (fruit trees grown right around town) as well as items brought over by travelers from outsideof town whom locals would often invite over for dinner or access to fresh produce unavailable anywhere else within driving distance! One such example is Ruth Atwood's house right next door which she shared with her mother until mom died suddenly young at 95 without any children living nearby to take care of her! One common accusation leveled against retirees like myself is that they "just sit around all day" however I've never found this problem remotely prevalent - usually during my visits I'm able to find something interesting or exciting happening either inside or outside of my home while sitting comfortably on my porch enjoying views overlooking downtown Corvallis! Finally...I guess I should mention that despite being one hundred years old (!), I still enjoy biking/running/fishing just about every day :-)

The area now comprising Corvallis was first settled by emigrants from eastern North America in 1855. The City of Corvallis was founded on December 8, 1855 by immigrants from eastern North America who were seeking new land to farm after their failed attempt to settle in California. At that time the only way for Americans to get far eastward was via ship which took weeks or even months to travel across the ocean. The journey was expensive and dangerous; many died along the way as well as those who made it back home (the " Crossing of the Sierra Madre"). Aftermath of California's Gold Rush: American settlers had exhausted all available land west of Fort Bridger within sight of San Francisco Bay and were turning their attention eastward when they discovered what would become known as the Oregon Country—a immense region extending from British Columbia down through present-day Nevada and Arizona into Mexico—in January 1849. This expansive new land offered many potential opportunities for gold mining but proved too rugged for early settlers to conquer safely; instead they turned their attention to building roads and settlements around such basic resources as waterholes and grazing lands that could be exploited easier by horses than men (see " Roadbuilders )." By 1850 much of western Oregon had been surveyed (and named) but no towns had yet been built because infrastructure development wasn't possible without government assistance; this remained true until later years when county governments began expanding rapidly into rural areas outside metropolitan areas on behalf of taxpayers. As Anglo-American settlement continued apace over northwestern Mexican Territory there arose fears among Mexicans about Anglo encroachment onto their traditional lands without any corresponding compensation or recognition from either side—fears stoked anew during times of political instability due to economic factors like riverINEditions/bankruptcies etc.—which led some Mexican landowners to arm themselves against Anglo squatters while others banded together with local Native Americans in what became known as the Rogue Valley Land Expedition (RVLE). Corvallis was founded in 1887 by schoolteacher, Fenton McMillan. The town was named for the nearby Cascade Mountains and it grew rapidly due to its location on a major stagecoach route. In 1913, the first post office was established in the town and it continued to grow until 1975 when it merged with nearby Florence.
