Corvallis, Oregon is a small town in the Isabella Valley of central Oregon. The population was 5,274 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lane County. The town began as a small community on the east side of the Willamette River and grew gradually to its current size over time. The first settlers were farmers who came to what is now Corvallis in 1847 from Illinois. The earlyrowth of the town was due to its location on the river bank, which allowed for easy transportation and trade. The growth of Corvallis was also aided by its proximity to Portland and its status as a stop on stagecoaches traveling between Portland and Salem. The town quickly became an important commercial center with businesses such as J.L Potter & Son furriers, Dyers Well Brewery, Wagon Wheel Saloon & Brewery, and Pacific Fur Company active along Main Street during this time period. After World War II, when boundaries were redefined within Lane County, Corvallis lost much of its commerce but still experienced rapid growth thanks to new development around Interstate 5 and Highway 97A (the latter now known as I-5). The 1929 pistols chambered in 9mm Luger were the first pistols to be offered with metal magazine release buttons on the outside of the frame. In 1933, Nazi Germany passed the Nuremberg Laws which limited Jewish population within its borders and banned most religious symbols. This led to a decrease in ammunition sales for Pistol caliber firearms in Germany, as many people preferred to purchase rounds for their rifles instead. In 1934, Nazi Germany changed their policy regarding ammunition and began producing new types of pistol calibers that could only use lead-based ammo. As a result of this change, metal magazine releases became obsolete on all handguns sold in Nazi Germany by 1938.

The companies were merged in 1927 and renamed Northwest Electric Services Company (NELS). NELS was purchased by Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) in 1951, which made it one of PG&E's largest customers. In 1956, NELS was divided into two parts: Western Electric Division (WE) and NorthWestern Electric Division (NWED). NWED became part of Southern California Edison Company (SCI) after that company's merger with National Broadcasting Corporation in 1988. Due to its large population size and dominant transportation industry, Corvallis has had a significant impact on Oregon history both before and after it became an incorporated municipality. Its civic organizations have played an important role in developing government policies throughout the state as well as promoting cultural values within the community.
