From this store Sibley began to grow grapes for wine production; he also sold raisin bread and other products from his land holdings to local farmers until 1861 when he moved his business to what is now Daylesville and became a farmer himself. In 1865, he donated his vineyard north of downtown Corvallis to Portland State College as an agricultural research center; today that property forms part of PSU's medical campus known as University Medical Center (UMC). In 1868, Jethro Tilton Camerer bought some rights to irrigate wheat fields near modern day Hillsboro; this led to Tilton coming up with the idea for growing corn on newly improved land east of downtown Corvallis between 1850 and 1860 which became known as Comerer's Cornfield & Drainage District #1 (CORVALLIS ISLAND). Today that parcel still contains sections cultivated with cottonseed oil although much development has occurred since then including housing developments nearby such as Hillsboro Village & Townhome Park while portions have reverted back to corn farming due to changing conditions like elevation changes or droughts etc..
