In 1915 when World War I began commercial production at Phelps Dodge munitions plants all over America ceased due to scarcity of labor; however Cornelius continued to be an important producerof leather goods as well as hay and straw for livestock until 1942.. After repeal of Prohibition in 1933 most industry stopped or changed direction towards less hazardous products such as plastics output increasing employment levels from 350 jobs in 1933 to 1,200 jobs by 1970 . Although today little remains than original buildings except foundations numerous descendants still live hereabouts continuing some aspects that their grandparents started...

Cornelius was founded in 1847 by Cornelius J. Dolan and his wife, Harriet. The town was named for Cornelius H.
