By then, most of the old buildings had been torn down or sold off to developers. In 1969, Cornelius experienced another economic downturn as oil prices plummeted due to OPEC oil embargo. Businesses closed down throughout much of Oregon but there were some exceptions such as software company Adobe Systems which kept its office building open through 1973 despite low oil prices thanks to its international partnerships. Despite these challenges over the years (and numerous budget cuts), many people have come out of retirement to help revive the community including Mayor Don Ohlmeyer who served from 1987 until his death in 2013; Community Development Director Darlene Christensen who has overseen development projects since 2000; City Manager Darrel Tingley since 2003; Director/Mayor’s Assistant Dan Rea since 2007; Assistant City Manager Erik Lesser since 2010; Deputy City Manager Jeff Sells since 2012 and Mayor Don Ohlmeyer’s son Rick Ohlmeyer Jr., who is currently Town Administrator Today Cornelius remains one of Oregon’s smallest towns with only about 100 residents but it still contains all the amenities you would hope for in a smalltown: A grocery store, post office (which closed late last year because of budget cuts), library (closed 2009), cultural center (closed 2013) Cornelius is located at 38°48′N 123°14′W / 38.[38] N123.[123] W / -122[2]. It has an area of 14 square miles (.50 km²). The population according to 2010 census was 100

However, during the 1960s and 1970s, the town declined as manufacturing jobs moved out of the area. Today, there are few remaining businesses in Cornelius except for some small-scale agriculture operations.
