Cornelius, Oregon is a city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the county seat of Clatsop County. The waterman later became an early settler hereabouts, founding the G W Waterman Store & Mill which still stands today and employs around 60 workers full-time today as part of its primary industry: water treatment plant maintenance and operations. When Interstate 5 was constructed through Clatsop County in 1964, much of downtown business moved out to accommodate construction projects nearby including I-5's first interchange with I-84 just south of town center; this area would remain heavilyindustrialized until after Portland's emergence as a major urban center following World War II when many new residential developments began popping up there too including several large shopping malls anchored by Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney, Macy's Inc., Kmart Corporation, etc.; these developments have since largely been replaced or demolished by newer high-rise apartment buildings such as Lloyd Center/CenturyLink Field mall ( adjacent to William Satterlee Park ), Beaverton Crossing Mall , MAX light rail stations located immediately east/west across from various department stores (such as Sears formal plaza / Katella), Greg Norman Golf Course . Other notable places within close proximity include: Quilcene Indian Reservation - just outside town limits; Sandy Beach Estuary National Wildlife Refuge - some miles northeast along US 97 corridor; Eagle Rock Naval Air Station - northwest side of town limits next to Moody Harbor ; Winthrop Island Naval Hospital - southeast side of town limits next to Willamette River estuary

The town was named after Cornelius Vanderbilt, an American railroad magnate and philanthropist. The town quickly became a center for logging and farming, with businesses such as the Stephenson Store providing goods to local farmers. However, the towns growth stalled during the Great Depression and World War II. After the war, Cornelius revived its economy with a new focus on tourism. In recent years, however, it has experienced significant decline due to changes in the regional economy.
