This event would have given Portland settlers pause because they had no idea where Vancouver's ship could be located or what he carried with him! It wasn't until 1818 when Lewis & Clark made it their original objective to explore all of northwest America before making it back east across Canada! After making landfall west of modern day central point they continued south only to find that there was no water anywhere near them so they turned back! As it turns out this event would have consequences that would last many years...the area now occupied by central point was first visited by American Indians about 12 miles upriver from where we are today! Oregon Statehood happened on March 4th 1859 which meant that all land within our borders including central point were annexed into Oregon Territory!! This placedcentral point squarely within the orbit of Portland's burgeoning commercial sector which only accelerated over time!! By 1890 more than 120 businesses had opened up in central point!!!Throughout this time period there were several attempts at creating city boundaries but nothing ever materialized...Apparently City Hall felt too confined inside its own borders LOL We didn't realize how much business we generated until after WW2 when we started seeing planning drawings everywhere!!!! Unfortunately those days are long gone :( Soooo needless to say development never really picked up again :) After World War II things changed drastically for us here at centrally point- With computers came new ways to do things old methods just couldn't keep up with change anymore! In 1952 Pacific Northwest Telephone Company (PNWTC) arrived here followed shortly thereafter by Bellsouth who bought NWTC!!! What followed next is still talked about today as one of THE craziest events in town history!!! Bellsouth decided that instead of expanding service beyondPortland limit they wantedto build TWO NEW CITIES!!!!!!!!!!!!! ONE IN CENTRAL POINT AND ONE IN EAST BEND!!!!!!!!! WHAT HAPPENED WAS THAT WITH ALL OF THIS BUSINESS ACTIVITY THROUGHOUT THE AREA THERE WAS NO SPACE FOR ANYONE TO WORK SO THEY DIDN'T EXPAND SERVICE BUT MANY PEOPLE END UP LOSING THEIR JOBS HERE AT CENTRAL POINT AS A RESULT !! WE WERE COMPLETELY OUT OF WORK BUT THEN AGAIN SOMEBODY DECIDED TO BUILD A NEW CITY JUST LIKE Bellsouth WANTED SO NOW WE LIVE IN TWO CITIES ETCHED INTO THE SKY LOL

In 1851–52, Portland Mayor John McLoughlin began construction on what is now McClellan Park on land donated by General James Kappler. The park was completed in 1853 and served as Central Point's main public square until 1906 when it was turned over to Portland for use as an industrial area. In 1861–62 Captain Ayer Post made another Attempted crossing from Canada into Oregon via Fort Vancouver but his boat sunk while en route; this event helped spur passage through rapids along the Willamette River for pioneers seeking new opportunities westward.- For many years it was thought that this attempt may have been attempted by Lt Jesse Benton during his exploration expedition which failed to find any evidence to support this claim
