Central Point is a town in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. Central Point is located on the Willamette River and has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cwa). The first Europeans to visit what is now central Portland were traders and missionaries in 1795-96. They named the area "Clackamas" after the Clackamas Mountains in northern Oregon. In 1821, Robert Sibley founded Sibley's Station on an uninhabited island in present day Multnomah Bay. With its boat dock and wharf, Sibley's Station became one of the principal transportation hubs for early Portland. Portland began expanding rapidly during the late 19th century as its population increased with new industries such as logging and shipbuilding. In 1892, Central Point was incorporated as a separate village within Portland; it became part of Portland when that city was created from multiple municipalities during annexation by Portland in 1898. The name "Central Point" appeared on maps for many years before it was chosen for its location on the Willamette River between two important commercial harbors – Commercial Street Pier and Navy Pier – providing easy access to foodstuffs, timber resources, shipping lanes and other businesses around those ports. One of Central Point's most famous residents was Jens Jacobsen who served as mayor ofPortland from 1903 to 1906 and later represented Oregon State in Congress from 1907 to 1912. During World War I he served as an intelligence officer with American Expeditionary Forces headquarters at Boulogne-sur-Mer in France where he developed methods for decoding enemy communication codes used by British forces during that conflict. After his military service ended he returned home to start a printing company which he ran until his death in 1934 at age 90 years old; his son continued operations until 1957 when they merged with another printing company into what is now Hearst Corporation; this led to Central Point becoming one of Hearst Corp.'s primary production centers outside of California until 1974 when Hearst Corporation closed all its manufacturing plants worldwide including Centralpoint; today much of what remains of that once booming community can be found along Northwest Highway 101 south of town center near Hearst Corp.'s former paper mill site where daily tours are offered today In 1886 David Hammill built Damocles Paper Mill just upstream from where Central Point sits on still waters flowing out from Multnomah Bayou (now McLoughlin Park Reservoir) which then emptied into Multnomah Bayou again creating an oxbow lake extending back over SE Clearing Road across McLoughlin Park Reservoir current day (althoughaccessible only by boat or kayak). Central Point, Oregon is a small town in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States. The population was 712 at the 2010 census. Central Point is located on the Clackamas River and is part of the Portland metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Central Point were Native Americans who hunted deer and bear in the area for food. In 1847, Captain George Vancouver discovered a navigable riverine route from California crossing through Oregon and he named it after his new discovery - Vancouver's Passage. In 1892, the Post Office was established at Central Point and the community began to grow as word spread about its natural resources and potential for growth. By 1910, Central Point had a school, Methodist Episcopal church and two stores. The post office closed in 1945 but it reopened as an interim store in 1951 before becoming an all-purpose store in 1955. In 1957, Central Point voted to become an incorporated town with its own government which did not take effect until 1959 when it annexed farmland south of town along Willamette River to create what is now called Pioneer Valley Park. The townsite was renamed Central point after Pacific Electric Railway president Samuel Morse donated land for a railroad station there in 1909-10 as part of their electrification project across America. When that project failed to materialize due to financial problems within PEPR early 20th century central point became one of many areas around the country hit hard by World War II shortages of goods brought on by war production industries such as aircraft production plants which were closed down because of lack of demand or simply because technology had advanced beyond where wars had started or been fought before). Central Point, Oregon was founded in 1847 by Captain George Vancouver and his crew on the HMS Beagle. The town was named for the point at which the Beagle had ended its journey from England to Spanish California. Central Point grew quickly, and by 1851 it had a post office and a school. In 1854, Central Point became part of the new Oregon Territory. It was in this territory that Portland was organized in 1855.
