Central Point is a small city in Oregon, United States. The population was 7,878 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit Central Point were American fur traders in 1825 and 1826 looking for passage upriver to the Columbia River. They named it "Point Pedro" because they thought its point would be an ideal spot for building a fortification against possible Native American attack. In 1827, Spanish missionaries established a mission here and called it Santa Clara de la Laguna. In 1861, when Oregon became a state, Central Point became part of Multnomah County and was renamed "Central Point". The post office opened in 1865 and remained open until 1898; during that time it served as the county seat for Multnomah County. In 1916, Multnomah County acquired all but one block of central business district land from the city so that Central Point could become its new county seat; this acquisition made central point an official city within Multnomah County. During World War II, Central Point's role as an important munitions production center helped contribute to its nickname "Arsenal Valley." During postwar years, Central Points growth slowed due to low demand for housing and jobs outside of town caused by suburbanization throughout Oregon; however new development has begun to revive central point's economy with new businesses opening up around downtown since 2007 In 2012 Mayor Chris Carpenter formed a task force which focused on developing ways to revitalize downtown core areas such as centrally located restaurants/bars/cafes etc., more public transportation options within walking distance including light rail or bus service available 24 hours per day or 7 days per week along with workforce training opportunities for youth living in Downtown cores . Central Point is a town in Grant County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,941 at the 2010 census. Central Point is one of 18 towns and villages in Grant County. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. The town of Central Point was founded in 1887 by settlers from Illinois who had come to Oregon to prospect for gold and silver. The first post office was established in Central Point on May 12, 1889. In 1902, the railroad reached Central Point and began carrying passengers and goods between Portland and points north. In 1907, the Union Pacific Railroad built a depot at Central Point which served as the town's commercial center until 1959 when it became an Amtrak station known as "Central Point Station". With its new Amtrak station came a change for CentralPoint: from being a small agricultural community to becoming an industrial center with production including paper products (including flour), shoe leathers, auto parts, cattle feed and fertilizers. In 1984-1985, central point residents organized themselves into a citizens' group to push for more education within their community about their history and culture; this led to the development of the "CentralPoint Historical Museum" which opened in 1987 on land donated by former Mayor Wanda Latham-Mathis
