In 1890 United States President Grover Cleveland made Central Point part of his state as it was then known – but it would not be until 1912 when he designated Central Point asOregon’s capital city because Portland had yet to be founded as an independent city! After more than 50 years as Portland’s second-largest municipality (after Multnomah County), CentralPoint celebrated its centennial in 1998 when much celebration took place including giving away free candy bars to children during school hours! Central Point was a small community on the banks of the Willamette River in Oregon. The town was founded in 1861 by entrepreneur and surveyor George Stephenson, who named it after his location on the then-new Central Pacific Railroad. The town prospered until 1883, when a severe drought caused its population to decline from 100 to just 20. In 1886, Stephenson donated land to the town for use as an airport, which led to its growth during World War II as air traffic increased between Portland and Seattle. Central Point is now a ghost town with few residents remaining.
